Roland VG4 = WOW

So, if you guys read my thread from over the winter you know I had some serious complaints about the state of solvent machines particularly with Roland and Mimaki. Well, the good news is that complaint is no longer valid. I have gotten to see what Roland’s new VG4 can do and I can finally say Roland is all the way back. The VG4 has the best print quality I have ever seen a solvent machine produce and I’ve been doing this for multiple decades. They finally have majorly pushed forward. Prints look like straight up solid vinyl on their standard print mode. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it. I’m sure the Epsons are hitting this kind of level too now, but I have been around the VG3 and saw plenty of prints from it. This is a different level. Makes my CJV300 look truly dated. It has a max output of 1800DPI. Reminds me of UV print quality. Colors are insanely vivid. No hype here. I was shocked by what I saw. I was just about to give up on Roland completely, but wow man I couldn’t be more impressed. Wanted to share it with you guys since I was just not too long ago considering everything they’ve done since the first VG series a step backwards. The VG4 and XG are finally the push forward I always hoped to see from Roland.

I am not happy they removed the interior lighting on the VG4 :((
yes, the print quality is phenomenal. The XG, the same just faster.
It is the same Epson head that Epson uses.
I was curious about that- yea wish the lights were still there, I know they are on the XG, but can get magnetic portable ones and put on the inside top. I will probably do that.

Just to clarify, the Mimaki 330 & 200 series + the new generation from Roland use i3200’s, the Epson 60600,70600,80600,7170,8170,9170, this and last generation of S printers, do NOT use i3200 heads.

The i3200 is the best head they offer to the reseller/remanufacture market, the heads in their branded machines are a “mine, I’m not sharing” different beast product.

So the Japanese are finally catching up to Chinese printers that have been running I3200 for 7+ years :D .

After the DX7 heads, the Japanese manufacturers seemed to want to get away from Epson and started using Ricoh, Toshiba, etc. After that experiment, now they seem to be back on the Epson bandwagon so they're a little late
