Need Help Roland XR - Can you "turn off" the left Head?

One of our heads has reached the end of it's life. This printer has been a workhorse for us for over a decade.... a few years ago it became the back-up printer, and now it's not even acceptable for that.

A while back we had some issues with our Epson S80600, and for a time they (techs) turned off one set of the heads so we could print - it looked fine.

We are wondering if there is somewhere in the menu system on the Roland where we can just "turn off" the left head, so only the right head is printing. Is this possible?

No, you cannot turn off one head. I cannot even do it as a service technician to test one head or the other. You can undo the ink lines if you like and plug them since they are connected to the other head with the Y connector. I don’t know how well it will print, but you can try it. It should print OK. You may have to go into Versa works and turn the overprint feature on by two or three. Or you can take the Y connectors out and run it straight to the dampers on the other head.
you’ll have to keep the electronics hooked up as you’ll get an error

No you can't turn off the other print head and use one print head instead....quality of the print will be fading or banding

Dang, Roland needs to get with the times. Mutoh has let you turn one head off for a long long time. It doesn't affect quality, just speed.

okey dokey... thanks everyone who chimed in to help. I just learned that the Boss is going to retire the Roland. Were getting a second Epson, the S9170.
Should have it in a couple of weeks.

That's what I said too. But we really need a second roll to roll. I was running the Epson all day yesterday and my print queue is still full. Jobs are stacking up, and we're only going to get busier. I don't think he was planning to get a new printer, but we really need it.
