Need Help S2T140 - "Unable to lower OPOS"

Hey everyone,

I have an issue with my Summa. Every time it scans for an OPOS mark it lowers the scanner multiple times and gives me the error "Unable to lower OPOS". After I press the return button it scans normally and proceeds to the next mark. Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks.

Open Summa Cutter Control Program, go to Menu panel and do a backup (click on the Backup button) of your plotter settings. Open the saved file (named with the serial number of your plotter) using a text editor (WordPad or Notepad for example) and search for a variable named "lower_opos_press2", if its value is less than 210 set it to 210. DO NOT CHANGE ANY OTHER SETTING. Save the file.
Now in Summa Cutter Program click on the Restore button, select the modified file and verify if the issue has been solved.

Thanks Jerry! It fixed the issue. May I ask how you found this fix and why the value must be 210?
I tried getting support from AirMark and Summa for over a year but they both were a lost cause.

Damn! That was a very specific and impressive answer. I'm curious to know how and why you got that knowledge. lol.

My experience was different, but I KNOW this helped diagnose it. With mine, the "Blade Holder" shaft for the cutter, was getting caught, due to some "Hairyness" on the shafts surface. I believe it's considered the Z axis, but that electromagnetic coil that drives the Z axis up and down also controls the OPOS sensor. I tried to figure out what was going on and fortunately had another cutter but a T140 in operation, and saw that it, indeed, was supposed to go higher than this machine was, when reading the registration marks. if I manually lifted or raised the blade/cutter head the shaft went up almost immediately, but when I tried pulling on the top, where you insert the blade holder, it would partially bind or not go up at all. so after replicating the behaviour, I took a diamond file, hit that area where there was (Not shown) a small high spot, lubricated with some HP latex printer lube top and bottom, and
confirmed it fixed it after 2 days being down. Hope this helps. Also, make sure your belt tension isn't too tight, because I have seen it affect the rise and fall action. Adjusting that belt is another story though.
