Main reason is if you don't or have limited access behind and don't want to have any power supply boxes or raceways exposed but you will still need to run your main plus it will make your install lighter.
I've never seen a self contained LED Channel letter before, but this has me curious. Does putting the power supply inside of the channel letter interfere with the light dispersion of the LEDs? Would this be more for interior channel letters (say a lit lobby sign)?
Larger channel letters make it easier but you can use low profile drivers like the one on this picture, we put 2 inside one letter and split the wiring to both sides.
