Signs literally broke in half

You can get away with that poor mounting with a thicker sign. If she doesn't want to pay for a 6mm then she got to do extra work shoring up the frame. Only time I do 3mm is if it's going against a wall or I'm building the frame on a real estate signs. 6mm for anything exposed on both sides.

I don't think 6mm really provides a lot more strength from tearing. The faces are the same. Screws etc. cut into it just as easily. If they want really windproof material you're talking .080" aluminum. Then again, the highway signs I saw torn off were 0.125" aluminum.

I've also dealt with many a 3/8" or 1/2" MDO face that blew off back in the day too.

I'd only reckon it would work here for longer term, not necessarily more resilient. The fact that the panel weighs 2x as much may help to keep it from swinging back and forth so frequently, but if god wants that panel, he'll take it and eat it for lunch.
But agreed, the stuff is basically just heavier, not stiffer, stronger, or anything truly helpful.

I had a similar project do the same thing, cracked in the wind, I switched to 080 Aluminum sign blanks and mounted laminated decals to them, also used with fence bolt kits,

I just got a postcard in the mail from Express Sign Products Inc. offering PROLink chain link fence sign fasteners. 95 cents each in a pack of 150. Cheaper than three 2x4's and nuts and bolts per sign and hold more securely.

Yes but the AI got me and Stacy mixed up. I'm looking for a postcard advertising white paint for fresh treated lumber that's still wet.

in yesteryear (80's) i used MDO and it was mounted to a chain linked fence ...with carriage bolts and washers (on both sides) I convinced the person in charge only to have the ADS in black and white...(ONE SHOT) ..that way less pigment and you all know that it never faded...lasted about 16 years and the place was torn down
