SP-540 Not Cutting Smoothly

Hopefully someone can help me out with this because i'm at a loss at this point. We do a lot of small prints and detailed contour cutting and for some reason when i'm trying to get laminated material cut the cuts aren't smooth at all. They seem very grainy (i think that's the best way to describe it). When i cut regular colored vinyl the cuts seem nice and smooth. I have messed with everything i could, i think, but to no avail. Has anyone experienced this before, is it because of the material or laminate we're using? What's a man gotta do to get some smooth contour cut lines? haha
