SP300V yellow printing orange

Empty ink switch doesn't appear to be working on our SP300v and it looks like yellow ink cartridge was empty for some time. Having replaced it and many power cleanings later, yellow is still printing orange especially at the start. Test print shows orangey yellow too with reddish tinge on the edges.

I have noticed that the magenta/yellow cap is not draining well and red ink residue seems to be collecting faster than normal around the head. Have also found flecks of red ink on the head itself after cleaning.

Can anyone suggest what may be causing this? Thanks.

Bad Captop. Worn seal or clogged.

Replace it and run a few cleans. Should be good, unless your Magenta cartridge has drawn enough yellow ink into it to contaminate it.

Is it possible that the yellow tube has drawn magenta while the cartridge was empty before we replaced it? We have been printing quite a bit of yellowish artwork but it has not cleared. Is there any way of cleaning the tube quickly?

I will certainly replace the cap asap but what is the effect of clogged up cap on the head itself? Could this have caused magenta to be drawn up the yellow tube?

Sorry I am new to all this. Do you mean pull it out where it's attached to the head and suck out the contaminated ink with a syringe?

NO... remove the drain bottle and connect a syringe to the tube there and pull gently.

This will pull from both heads.

If you want to pull only from the yellow/magenta head, disconnect the captop from the pump and connect your syringe to the captop tube.

hook syringe up to the tube that comes out the bottom of the caps and pull - if you get a good suction, you will also be able to know that your heads are seated well on the captops

Many thanks everyone. I'll be brave and have a go tomorrow. Wish me luck! The Roland guy who services the machine is on holiday and we need it working quickly.
