Still pre-masking by hand..

Hey everyone, I have been pre-masking everything by hand for a while and am interested to see what the forum thinks is the best tool to “upgrade” to. I have used the weber-made masking tool before and like the idea of the double shaft version, but think it’s ridiculously expensive for what it is. I have a friend who made a cheapo version ($35), with the same basic idea but using plumbing pipes (see attached).

However, I also have seen the “shark” tape tools from the UK:

But more recently this tool “MaskRite”has got my attention:

I am also getting a big squeegee very soon for laminating - will this, or one of Dale’s other tools work as well for me? I realize any of the above, and probably other even cheaper methods (like the cardboard core holder method) will work, but I am looking to get a quality tool for both clear and regular masking that will be worth it’s weight in my small home shop.

I still do it all the "old fashioned" way....but am now tempted...

I use the small squeegee from dale also.. and I never have problems with wrinkles and such..

I have the webber tape tool and I couldn't work without it,I've had it for 6 years ,at one point something broke on it and they replaced the part within 3 days free of charge.In my opinion it is a workhorse and I would reccommend it for the cost

I use an automotive body shop masking paper dispenser (see photo).

THe one I have is made to mount to a wall, but I just mounted it to the end of my table.

The shafts are approx 40". I keep a 24" roll on the front one & a 15" roll on theback one.

I have been using it for over 10 years & have had no problems.

It cost approx $35 - $40 at a carquest auto parts store.

I had a maskrite for over 8 years..............I can pull over 14ft or 24in cover with no problem..........I also use the Big Sgueegee...............
