so I have this clear vinyl I want to use and the design I have has a large area of white now I have a cmyk printer and of course prints no white. What are some ways I could work around that? are there any colors that I could use that print out light like white? any suggestions are welcomed. ✊

They are all translucent except black.

so something like this can't be done on a cmyk? I'll probably just need to talk the customer into layered decals

Quit buggin' me
If, like in the photo, the base color of the vehicle is white it will work.
The print will look washed out until you apply it to the paint.

If the base is not white you can just print on white and contour cut out the areas you want to be clear.

Why not print on white, laminate, contour cut the T logo and the black letters and supply with transfer tape.

White is the absence of color whereby anything colored white will not print but will be blank so if you're printing to white all is good. Printing to clear would not work without white ink or applying to a white surface.

Why would you print a decal like this on clear? I am missing something.

Printing to clear usually indicates that it's for a backlit sign. If you print to white and have the white portions cut out, the vinyl will appear black at night as it is opaque not translucent like clear.

WHAT? I asked the OP why he would print the sample decal he displayed in the photo, on clear. A Van is not a backlit sign. As far as your statement, I print to white all the time for backlit signs and the white does not show up as black, unless you are printing on a grey backed vinyl. Not sure where the whole backlit thing came from.

Calm down! lol I just though he was using the pic a an example. Printing to clear was part of the question. For anything backlit we use clear, although we do have vinyl with a white back.

Oigo, is there a reason you want to use clear vinyl? As stated above, if you are applying it to a white background, you should be fine. ANY other background will show through any clear area on the decal, AND, because the inks are somewhat translucent, the surface the decal is applied to (other than white) will mute and dis-colour your decal. I would use white vinyl if possible.

Good luck.

some people like decals but dont like how they peel off from the edges. so a clear wrap would be best. except like how you see in the picture the white on the clear wrap is not white from the van its white ink that fell on top of the clear. in person the whole side is wrapped not with decals but with a clear wrap.

in that case you need a printer that prints with WHITE ink...
