The present Roland Webinar

Is anybody watching the Roland webinar right now? I fail to see how the Pantone system they're promoting is any easier or better than the RVW spot color system. It actually seems more of a hassle and expense.

It depends on the user. We have another webinar coming up on March 20th that addresses only the RVW colors.

For anybody wanting to match Pantone colors, x-rite's workflow allows you to directly input customers' files without any modification. This can preserve pre-flighted color spaces and any embedded profiles. Using the Roland Color Library, that file needs to be opened up and modified, which can introduce color space changes, and input profile tweaks which can give unintended consequences to a digital workflow.

Neither way is better as Mark G pointed out during the webinar. We wanted to give some perspective on hitting Pantone colors since we know inkjet has a hard time hitting the Pantone color chart. Mark opened his webinar talking about how Pantone colors are comprised of 14 different pigments and most inkjets only have CMYK.

It isn't correct to suggest that one is easier than another, it varies from person to person. If you're comfortable with using the Roland Color Library, we encourage you to stick with it. We want to provide options for the people who don't think RVW colors are easy.

I hope that helps.

Thanks Dana. One thing I'd like to comment on regarding Mark's answer on this during the webinar:

He said that when using the RVW system, each time a customer's job needs to be printed the RVW colors in the file need to be applied, but this is not really accurate, as once a customer's logo or lettering etc has their particular RVW colors applied, it's done, and the logo or whatever is then simply copied & pasted for future prints/jobs.

The webinars are great; thanks so much.
