Thoughts on the Epson S9170

Hi everyone!

The Epson S9170 has been out for a short while now. I am wondering what everyone's experience is with this machine. We have a few S80 printers at our shop that is reaching end of life and we are debating on replacing it with the newer S9170 or the tried and true S80.

I am always reluctant to get a new generation model. We had horrible experiences with the S70 when it came out, and was happy to see that the S80 corrected many of its flaws.

I would be very appreciative if everyone can share their experience with this newer model, good or bad.

Thank you!

That chasis/print engine/printhead has been out for a while now, probably close to 2 years. Its solid, don't think there are any crazy problems that would pop up

I'm sure they'll eventually have sales/rebates, but from what I see right now, the jump from a $17,000 80600 to a $27,000 9170 is probably hard to swallow for small/medium sized shops looking to upgrade. The ink is way cheaper on the new one (for now), but you also have to pencil in the cost of a RIP—if you don't have one already. The cheaper heads seem like a moot point, as they'll get you coming or going with the price of the extended warranty.

Dunno who thought having freshly printed rolls 3 inches off the ground was a good idea...

Still, it's probably my next printer despite all my grumbling, so if anyone sees a user review out there, post it! Haven't seen anything but resellers so far.
