Can you replace a CA4 head with a new CE4M head by splitting the CE4 head apart? I've never tried this, but a vendor says it's possible. I don't want to blow $600+ on a head and destroy it.

So tell the vendor that he should prepare the head and give you the warranty. I don't think such a head will provide the same quality as the original CA4.
