Versaworks and artboards?

Why doesn't Versaworks see artboards? I have a file that is 24.5x18.5, artboard size, but the artwork itself is smaller. Versaworks wants to crop the file size to the size of the art instead of the artboard. Is there a way to fix that, or do I have to 'draw' a rectangle around every file?

if you are exporting as eps, there are options in the export to send the artboard size vs the object size

OK, so I just need to remember to click save as artboards on everything? Is there a way to make the default rather than having to click it everytime? Ir is that even a good idea?

I just quickly tested this and it is just the nature of how the EPS is built. You need a bounding box shape unless you use the tick box to include the artboard, versus an .AI turned PDF; automatically masks the document page giving you your artboard unless you specified a bleed.

One other question with an issue I've been having. When there is a transparency, the print 'shows it'. Attached is an example photo of a file. The photo is transparent where the square is, but versaworks is printing it lighter. I can't figure out how to fix it.

that has to do with rendering intents differing from raster to vector

Hard to say exactly without knowing how the file was built. I'd say it is a mix of RGB and CMYK elements that when RIP'd, caused this. Double check that photo is masked properly and is truly 100% "empty".

There is a color management Preset in Versaworks built specifically for this issue, called Full Page Conversion Mode. It often times resolves this (though not always).

It is located in the Job Settings dialog, on the Quality Tab, in the area labeled Color Management, in the Preset Listbox.

In cases where the preceding does not work (using certain transparency effects), the next step would be to rasterize the file at an acceptable resolution. This fall-back approach consistently resolves the issue.
