VS-540: where does the bottom of the little spring attaches to?

When I saw all this ink oozing out of my VS-540, I decided to change the cap-top. There was no spring on the front, but there was this small spring in the new cap-top package. I know that anchors in front of the cap-top. But where does the bottom of the spring attaches to?
