Unless you have an i1 colorimeter and the software to make profiles I'd give the a call real quick and have them ship SS21 solvent ink with it instead..... I've heard of more people changing from ES3 to SS21 then actually staying with ES3. There are tons of stock profiles out there for SS21 inks, very very few for ES3. There will be a pretty strong odor with ss21 though. Search on here for Mimaki ES3 and you will see what I mean.

Aside from that, great machine. Built like a tank, excellent takeup unit, excellent print quality, easy maintenance. We have always run full solvent on ours so I really cannot comment directly on the ES3 inks though - only what I've ready many times.

Onyx is far better than Rasterlink. Rasterlink is not terrible but it's not in the same league as Onyx. To be honest, I only used Rasterlink about 8 years ago with our older JV3 when we still had that and only ran Rasterlink then for a week or so. Have never touched it since....

The ES3 is... less than stellar. I've found that using the stock profiles, running it less than 12pass leads to lots of banding. I'm sure you could create your own profiles and get better results, but ES3 ink just isn't as tested or dialed in as the SS21. It hasn't been reformulated in over a decade i'd assume, as it's the same product as the JV3 could run. the SS21 was reformulated for the JV33 heads, and seems to be a much better product.

That being said, the hardware on a JV33 is excellent if you do the most basic of maintenance to keep it running. It's a tank, and while not the fasted or prettiest machine, it runs forever.
