The black definitely negates the holographic effect but any lighter colors still allow the effect to shine through. But, yes, generally speaking this material has a greater effect when negative space is smartly utilized! Not meant for 100% coverage for sure.

Starting around 1:45 there are some good close-ups where you can see that it does shine through pretty well even where it's printed (the red text / black stripes).
