Am no sign maker but have messed about with an old Creation PCUT, Signblazer and Inkscape so am not a total noob. I'm currently designing a set of graphics for my own personal Supermoto motorcycle but am after a little guidance.
So far I've bought an EPS template suitable for my bike from Motorsportstemplates which is 1:1 scale and looks pretty good. I have used SCRIBUS to convert this file to an SVG file (so I can do the design work in INKSCAPE) which seems to have retained the original files scale. I'm about to start overlaying my design when I realised I'm not sure what format a graphics maker will want me design in?
I was thinking I'd send them an EPS file but want to know if it's ok to create my design by overlaying a mixture of jpegs/bitmaps and vectors using INKSCAPE then 'save as' EPS.? I figure as they'll be printing rather than cutting that image files rather than vector files should be ok?
So for my workflow I was thinking:
1. Buy EPS template
2. Convert EPS to SVG (using SCRIBUS)
3. Overlay bitmap/jpeg graphics over the template (using INKSCAPE)
4. 'save as' either SVG or EPS
5. Email SVG or EPS to graphics maker
Does anyone have any experience with MX graphics and know what whichever company I go with will expect?
Also am I going down the right path here with INKSCAPE or is there a more suitable software for this purpose? Only reason I went with INKSCAPE is because I can just about work my way around it ok.
Also while on the subject, can anyone recommend a good UK MX graphics company that will cut/print my custom design?
Thanks in advance
