Where is the encoder strip located?

Where is the encoder strip located on a VJ 1204. I am getting an error code that has "encoder" in it and I thought I would try to clean it. This is the first real problem in 4 years so I haven't had to do this before. Thanks in advance.

It's better to have two hands than one glove.
It's the strip of clear plastic with vertical lines printed on it mounted on the carriage ways right behind the head carriage. Clean it very delicately.

No. The encoder strip is a long clear strip, about 54" long by 1/2" high. It has barely discernible lines on it. (you'd have to look very, very close to see them). Remove the top of your machine. You can't miss it. The cutting head and print head moves along it as it travels back and forth.

Note: Handle it with care!
