Which one of you isn't lettering tailgates!!!

Whoever you are, you DRIVE ME CRAZY! Why on earth would you put a partial wrap on the rear quarter panels, nice lettering on the sides and then NOTHING ON THE TAILGATE???? I just followed TWO pick-ups and TWO dumptrucks - NONE of them had ANYTHING on the tailgate. They all turned off to the left - what a waste of advertising space! They had like 10 miles of free advertising for me and they got nothing out of it! I don't have enough time to see your business name when you turn and I go straight.

Then, in the distance, a van appeared. DeTroye Electric, Oostburg Wi - I remember because I drove behind him for like 10 blocks and had nothing else to look at.

Rant over.

And no more holographic film on the back windows. You're going to make Stacey go blind and she'll ram her van into you.

I've got one worse. My city put up a sound barricade and blocked off 3 billboards. Mine is the last one at the exit, literally a 1/2 second BOO is all you'll get:
The other two boards... worthless except for the permit if they tear them down.

That is one ugly sound barrier!

I'd be pissed if I was them. Probably codes against going taller with their sign!

I tell customers, that is the most important area.

Not just that, the city has a moratorium on billboards, and if one goes down, they hold an emergency meeting to reduce the number by 1. These are lamar's structures, I'm sure they are figuring out where to move the permit to and who's back to scratch to ensure that they don't lose potential to re-erect them. They could theoretically raise them as far as sign ordinance is concerned, but since they all sit next to residential, zoning wouldn't likely allow it.

Always throw in a proof for the tailgate graphics as an additional $$ option for pickup trucks, vans, utility body’s etc. for plumbers, landscapers, contractors, etc…

They always bite.

Dump truck owners always have pebble and crap spilling out the back cracking windshields when driving down the highway. that’s why they don’t advertise on the back.

And they don’t usually have the phone number on the doors either

In my part of the world (small town in Sweden) lettering the tailgate,
and the back of just about every vehicle, is a given.
But more and more customers choose to not having anything on the front/hood.

Stacey K I'm always trying to market for people to put their advertisement on the back of the tailgate or window or something. For just a few dollars more, they can use that real estate to get their message across. People spend the majority of time looking at the back of a car at a stoplight.

But have ya'll seen the new trucks with all the curves on the new tailgates?

Yes - I don't like it either. It makes it more difficult to create a layout that works well with those curves. Contact info has to be smaller or it will curve down and you can't see the bottom half

We always try to talk the customer into doing the back as well. But ultimately it is up to them and their pocket book. Most of the time we will give three prices and most of them just pick the lowest option. Which is frustrating for all of the above reasons. We want to give the customer the best bang for their buck. Maybe we should make a thread on sales techniques. Maybe it is my sales technique that is failing.

I was going to say the same thing. It looks like North Korea style architecture.

This is a good idea. Always struggle with - To do the art before the job is sold or not. Usually we quote what it is going to cost material, installation, location, and art setup is included, art design is extra.

We have two big tv screens. We usually cast the graphics up on one of the screens. We download the line drawing of their vehicle and show them what it looks like in real time.
Oftentimes I tell them that people look more at the back of the vehicle in traffic or at stoplights and are able to focus more on what they sell. A QR code is great to have on the tailgate. window perf is a good one too. Even just decals on the tailgate work.

I have a customer who no longer uses QR codes on the back of their vehicles. After the time they were rear-ended by someone trying to scan their QR code.
