XR-640 smearing ink on low setting

Hi, so I got 3 XR-640 and one of them can only print on HIGH (Head) when I lower it to LOW setting I get ink smears as if the carriage is to low and it is smearing the ink.
Is there a way to raise it just a tiny bit? Don't want to use high in some cases since I can get a bit of spray.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Pictures please. May just be dust/lint hanging from the bottom of the carriage.

My VG640 is the same. I just use it in high so not to get a head strike. Unfortunate but not sure how to manual adjust the whole carriage to accommodate highand low setting.

No this is a mechanical flaw. Had the Roland tech from Pacific Coast Paint supply confirm it. I know you can adjust head height through versaworks or manually with the lever. On its low setting, banner material will get a strike halfway through a 20 ft print. Not worth it for me. Ive been desling with this issue for years and just keep it on the high setting. Your freaking printheads are way expensive.

Print Banner material in High Head height only.
if you’re having quality issues, print in unidirectional and if the issue is better. If so, then you need to form perform the bIdirectional adjustment in the high Head height on that same material.
keep in mind, you can save the settings as a Preset on the printer, see the User manual

I guess this is an .AI response so stop.

The banner issue sounds like tunneling (buckling). I have found on our XR640 that if I feed out some slack instead of letting the machine pull the material off the roll that I don't get head strikes, if I don't do this eventually the material tunnels up and the head strikes the raised tunnel. Same for vinyl being printed. I suggest the smears and the head strikes are because of tunneling (which becomes more frequent as the rubber rollers age).
