YM print head issue HP Latex 360

Hi guys,

Something strange is happening with our yellow/magenta heads. All was fine, then we had Service Kit 3 replaced (this should be unrelated to this issue) and I noticed banding in prints. After doing some force drop detections which showed the # of blocked nozzles on heads 5 & 6 slowly increasing I also noticed I had to print on 20 to get the same quality (lack of banding) as previous identical jobs printed at 10 pass.

After calling HP and speaking to our tech in town different things were mentioned: a possible short on the 5 or 6 head which would knock out the other / faulty maintenance cartridge/ dirty encoder strip. After cleaning the encoder strip serval times (no more dirt comes off now) and replacing both the #5 & 6 YM print heads twice in the past two weeks and putting in a brand new maintenance cartridge, I see the issue is still having around.

The tell-tale signs are banding in prints / bad red and magenta reproduction / a dotted line at the top of the #5 and/or #6 print head print test / the amount of blocked nozzles slowly increases every time a do a force drop detection.

I have attached some pics of what I am talking about, has anyone else experienced this? As the printer is out of warranty but the print heads and maintenance cartridge were not HP said to replace those but if the problem persists to call a tech to look further but not sure which path to go down. Any suggestions?

Steve

first question, did you clean the contacts in your carriage
is your ribbon cable still in good shape
did you look under the carriage to make sure there isnt any stuck there

Contacts have been cleaned and the underside of the carriage appears to be OK. How do I check the ribbon cable?

i would run your carriage to the far end of the machine and physically inspect it for breaks or anything that looks odd.

Cables are OK...I have put 2 new YM heads in and so far so good. Will see if the blocked nozzles start to increase again, still doesn't explain the cause of the problem..
