I've been lurking here for about a year, but this is my first post. I'm not super experienced with plotters so I'm hoping one of you pros can help me with a problem I cannot find a resolution to -despite many hours of searching this forum, and scouring the rest of the internet.
I recently purchased a new 50" Vevor cutter/plotter that came with Signmaster Cut+ARMS 5.0. I've been learning the ropes and it's been going pretty well. Today I wanted to test an intricate cut pattern with the pen tool on paper before taking the chance of ruining a 40" x 48" piece of vinyl. The pen tool that came with the machine is terrible and I realized the OD of a short Sharpie is almost identical to the OD of the pen and cutting holders that came with the machine (which I believe is Roland compatible). I installed the Sharpie and it worked perfectly. When I switched back to the factory cutter I noticed that when I set the origin or when I attempted to cut the pattern, the cutter was about .120" above the material. I power cycled everything but it did not correct the problem. To be clear, the tool drops and raises as expected and I truly do not think it's broken, it now is just operating around .120" higher than expected in both raised and lowered positions.
What I assume happened is that the Sharpie protruded lower in the tool holder than a factory tool would and the machine or software identified this and performed an automatic adjustment to compensate for this. I have been banging my head against the wall going through all the settings trying to find a way to adjust z-axis offset or to perform a recalibration of the z-axis, but I haven't been able to find anything regarding how to do this or what could have caused this.
Has anyone encountered this before? Any suggestions regarding what I should try?
Any help or ideas would be sincerely appreciated. This vinyl is needed for my biggest job to date for a multi-plane backlit sign I designed in Solidworks. Losing my ability to cut vinyl right now is so STRESSFUL!
