I have a GS6000 and similar thing happens to me but it only does it when I do a head clean. What happens is that the flushing pad can't absorb ink fast enough so the ink builds up until it sticks to the head, thus smearing ink all over the place. So, when I do a head clean, I wait for a bit...

Try holding PAUSE, RIGHT ARROW and DOWN ARROW when powering up to enter service mode. Cheers Dan

I have the same strange problem. The inks do fade fast with the GS6000 by the way, but as mentioned in a previous thread I'm not sure how to explain this.... my prints are suffering fade on the leading edge of the print. See attached.
