  1. Gerber Sabre Quality Problem...Chatter?

The lead screw has a two part, spring loaded nut that is supposed to take up any slop in the nut/screw assembly. I've seen that nut get dirty and not spin freely, so it doesn't self adjust anymore (the spring isn't very strong) Sometimes also helps to unhook the spring and twist it a little bit...
  2. Digital Tool CNC Router

Digital Tool brand CNC router Currently powered and in full working condition - can be demoed. 63" x 52" working area Two heads, one 15 Amp Porter Cable router, and one 7.5HP Perske high speed spindle with variable speed drive and line reactor Independent lead screw W and Z heads X and Y axis...
  3. Laser fumes... AARGH...GAG...UGH...!

That'd be _some_ plastic, not _all_ plastic. PVC to be specific. Other stuff (acrylic for instance) is just fine to cut, even though it doesn't smell that great.
  4. Laser fumes... AARGH...GAG...UGH...!

We are using 6" tin ductwork for all laser exhausts. Keep the flex to a minimum (we don't have any) - that stuff will kill your airflow. Also, when lasering wood, the wood sap will be sticky and will build up inside your exhaust - higher air speed helps this out, but you'll still probably have...
  5. PDF, file is corrupt

In my experience, Corel can't open a newer version of PDF - it'll give you the "corrupt file" error. X3 is a little old by now, so PDF's created with CS3/4/5 are too new for it. Try X5 or X6, it'll open a few PDF's that X3 won't - or just get the Adobe product and use it to resave.
  6. CNC Lasers, Routers, Plasma cutters

I've bought, operated, and repaired most of the major laser brands. Just for kicks, I have also purchased a $1,000 chinese laser with a glass tube and a $7,000 chinese laser with a RF tube. The $1k laser was of the type described earlier - provide your own bucket to hold the aquarium pump for...
  7. Coreldraw publish to PDF -selection only - without page -

I dunno, I don't remember ever doing this with X3... I do remember working outside of the page dimensions and nothing showed up in the PDF; as well as saving selections and they end up full page size. It may work differently if you print to PDF using CutePDF or similar instead of using the...
  8. How to create a multipage .pdf from .jpgs?

CutePDF is what I use It appears as a regular printer in Windows, so just use any software that can print multiple pages, print to the CutePDF printer, and you're set.
  9. Help, Ink removal from floor

How about an air chisel to scrape the ink off the concrete?
  10. Jacking up a boat off the trailer

Wouldn't the eyes on the back be the "correct" place to lift from? Thought that's what they were there for...
  11. Hey flatbed CNC guys

Probably would use either 1/4" carbide or 1/2" diamond. Just space it out as much as you can on the 4x8. If you end up with only .3 spacing, then he'll have to use a 1/4" bit, no problem there, just don't count on anything smaller being available.
  12. Wireless router thief

It's a little harder to setup, but you can do some real fun things to mess with people leeching your connection. All images upside down, blurred, replaced with kittens, etc :thumb: http://www.ex-parrot.com/pete/upside-down-ternet.html
  13. Gerber Software

You guys (girl) sure about needing an old computer? I'm running a few copies of GA 6.21 on brand new computers with XP Pro.
  14. replacing sacrificial boards on a 408?

We've had good luck with a heavy rubber that's made for conveyor belts; got it from MSC for $5.74/ft http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT?PMAKA=62170717 We still had some gerber tape leftover, so I haven't tried other kinds of doublestick tape yet.
