  1. 3m 40c what lam

Getting back to topic......at double the price for laminates I would definitely only use the 8518 for the IJ180 only, and save the 210/215 for regular old digital prints.
  2. 3m 40c what lam

Sorry to hear that 2CT. I do recognize that thread now that you posted the link. Shame on 3M!
  3. Discussion Your approach................................

I wouldn't say a word about her mistake. I would price it at the correct measurements with a proper rendering/proof stating the true size. Hopefully the other shops will price it at the wrong measurements and be higher priced than you.
  4. 3m 40c what lam

Wow! 50k.. I would never use another 3M product if that happened to me. Did 3M "go good" or help you out in anyway?
  5. New Product Gino

    LOL at Johnny Best
  6. 3m 40c what lam

I have heard the bad press about the 8508 overlam but have never experienced it ourselves. I still use the 8508 and Oracal 210 or 215 when I run out of 8508. Fingers crossed we have had no issues. As for the 8518, I think it is over kill but you would have to do a cost comparison between the...
  7. Discussion Your approach................................

If it was local I would do a site visit. The measurements do no scale properly at 24 x 63 .....8ft to bottom

  10. repo

When customers do not pay their bill we show up and ask for the owner or manager to inform them that we are here to repo their sign. It doesn't take long before payment is made in full. Just showing up and going through the motions is most times enough for them to pay up.
  11. Would your shop take this wrap job?

We would take on the job if the customer paid us for our design time upfront....4 hours at $65 per session. After the initial 4 hours the customer can choose to pay an additional 4hrs or leave with what they paid for. It sounds like it will be a $2500.00 wrap with a $5000.00 design fee.
  12. GCC J2 132 Plotter is going sideways while cutting. Can anyone tell the reason ?

Are your pinch rollers worn or have they been replaced lately? The rollers have a camber or angle to them. If worn or installed backwards could make your vinyl drift. Also what is the backer on the vinyl? If we plot vinyl with a clear plastic backer the vinyl will certainly slip....drift... etc..
  13. Work Method...

Right to left and on a 45 degree angle works for me. Small text I weed the "A"holes...."P"holes and :"R"sHoles first. :D
  14. spike measuring device

We just recently bought a Spike. It seems to work great. Good for those times when the customer decides to add something after the initial site visit....you have all the measurements without returning for a second visit for more measurements. Whichever you purchase it will be a great time/money...
  15. What Do You Do To Mask The Smell Of A Stinky Customer

I tell them we no longer do that type of work and refer them to worst sign shop I know of. Just kidding. High price for our services and a clothes pin for my nose?
  16. Need Help Names On Road Cones

We screen print ours for 3-4 of the larger road builders in our area. Of course the logo or name needs to small enough to fit in a 2-3 " area. We also only screen a minimum of 250.
  17. Opinion Any Opinions On Any Of These Laminators?

All I can add is that I have a Seal 54EL for the last 4-5 years and ran 100's of rolls through without putting a cent into repairs of replacement parts. Great machine in my opinion.
  18. Need Help Acrylic - Flame Polished - Craze

As Sign Works posted. Do not use any alcohol ...it will crack the Acrylic. I never clean my edges with anything but a dry rag. Try a sacrificial test piece to get your proper distance and heat. It is not a hard process...just takes a little practice.
  19. Equipment Panel - Screen Print Or Adhesive Vinyl?

We printed equipment panels for customers and no complaints so far...the feedback has been positive from them.. If they do choose prints I would strongly suggest using a high tack adhesive like a 3M IJ39 with 94 primer.
  20. New Guy Sign Estimating Software

We use Excel for simple flat sheet signs....aluminum, coro, styrene...wood with sheeting and vinyl. Everything else like backlits, acrylics, dimensional signs goes to our estimator/pricing due to the constant changes in cost of materials and final design of the sign. Our estimators simply use a...
