  1. SoftRIP 6.5 scaling problem

OK, I just picked up a copy of Wasatch SoftRIP 6.5. Got a good deal on it and figured that if I liked it, I'd upgrade it this summer. I get it installed, RIP a few files and send them to the printer (Muton Falcon Outdoor). it prints nice and fast, nice ink laydown, but the scaling is out of...
  2. Plywood Sign Advice

Scary... I'm sitting here reading some old posts and ran across this one. I could be wrong, but the impression I get from the original post is that this is someone who should go get some experience before pretending to be in the sign business.
  3. Help or Ideas Anyone?

I'd push the chalkboard, though I'd be inclined to use chalkboard paint. I'd worry that, given the amount of wiping it would get, the vinyl would start lifting at the edges. I have a feeling that if you billed your client for the time you've spent trying to think of a solution that will cost...
  4. convert pdf to eps?

I'd have to agree about the "garbage". A surprising amount of which comes from spendy design firms, where producing a clean file seems to be an unknown skill. Publisher should be banned from the universe. Did the OP ever get this figured out?
  5. convert pdf to eps?

"pdf is not a file format..." Just out of curiosity, if I create a file in Acrobat and save it as a pdf, what is it? @OP- when you say "eps" do you mean vector file? Bitmaps can be saved as eps files, too. PDF files contain (among other things) a truncated version of Illustrator eps. If...
  6. Logo design for you to destroy

The top one is nice to look at, though it reads better without the grey. I'm not sure if that means drop the grey or darken the red. Maybe both. On a letterhead it's probably ok but on a sign the grey won't be that visible and it will make the red harder to read. I'd drop the grey on "Southpaw"...
  7. Green Tint on Reflective White

Maybe this... My printer is a four color, not six, but I had something like this happen once. In my printer's control panel there is a setting for "black=cmy" or something similar that tells the printer to use cyan, magenta and yellow to make black. I toggled it to the off setting, it went back...
  8. Problem with bitmaps in Flexi

I've been using an old version of Onyx Postershop but due to compatibility issues and the cost of upgrading, I thought I'd try printing from Flexi 8.5. Vector graphics created in Flexi print beautifully, no banding, deep colors. When I print a bitmap (jpg or tif) that's been imported it prints...
  9. have a request for a 200denier nylon for banners

Yes, I'd screen print it. The easiest ink to use, single part, doesn't require a dryer, is Fujifilm Zephyrlon. A bit smelly but it prints well and sticks like crazy.
  10. Cold weather glass installation...help

I have no idea what the layout looks like but maybe do it on a big piece of static cling vinyl, it comes in rolls 48" wide. Just throwing this out there. I've never tried it but it might work for a month and it'd be way easy to apply and remove...
  11. Burning letters

Sandcarving then airbrushing a fill might give you the look you want. Also, a dull router bit in a cnc router, run at a slow speed, will burn the wood while cutting.
  12. Customers: can't have you cake and eat it to

First, let me say that my point here was not to single out or beat up on anyone. We've all done something like this at one time or another (or most of us). But because I'm having to deal with an infringement issue right now I'm a little sensitized. I've been reading various posts here about...
  13. Customers: can't have you cake and eat it to

Just wondering @anotherdog Here's your response to gypsygraphics post on the "20% change" thread: Quote: Originally Posted by GypsyGraphics there is NO percentage that you are allowed STEAL! even to create derivative work, you must permission from the copyright owner of the original...
  14. Customers: can't have you cake and eat it to

If the link is tainted it should probably be deleted. Does a mod have to do it or can I? I figured it out.
  15. Customers: can't have you cake and eat it to

Interesting. I'm running Opera with Avast! anti-virus and didn't pick up a thing. I suppose you could just google Colin Harman. He has a website where he posts his design work, including this piece, and sell prints. It's also interesting that we're all (rightly) indignant when someone pirates...
  16. Customers: can't have you cake and eat it to

Wouldn't it have been easier to just buy one from the guy who designed it? Google Colin Harman- he designed this in July 2010 Then you wouldn't have to change it 20% ( I must admit, it is theft-worthy)
  17. "If you change X% of the design it's fair game"

Infringement warning form letter? Anyone know of a good, intimidating form letter to mail to an ex-client, who after being warned three years ago about unauthorized use of my design, is using it all over his new location? Oh, wait. He did change something. He 'shopped out my copyright info...
