Yeah good thanks mate. Settling in ok. There are alot of bike shops around, mostly Japanese though surprise surprise! I wanna check out a local sign shop one of these days but still havent had a chance. The designs here are so weird... Alot of text, not many graphics, and very busy designs. Hows...
  3. Vinyl is not a lot like wine...

I've moved to Japan, and have started taking photos of signs and type whenever I get a chance, as their different approach fascinates me. Something else which fascinates me, is how long they will hold onto a sign...
  4. wrapping text on a cylinder

I don't know about in corel, but I've done that in Illustrator. It's been a while, but from memory, you need to make a symbol instance out of your text or whatever you wanna wrap around your shape... The catch is, that you need to make your cylinder or shape, using the 3d tool in Ai. I...
  5. How to translate word into japanese characters

If you still need help let me know. I speak (and type) Japanese.
  6. Help! Big PDF problems

Heya, Not doing anything wrong - it's just a fact that corel can't open PDFs which were saved with certain attributes when originally published in Illustrator/InDesign. Something which may or may not work for you, is to save a PDF (from Acrobat) as an EPS - which you might be able to open in...

  9. VS-640 issues

Thanks for the tip, I do have an IR therm... I remember checking that out a while back... the dryer heater I remember recording a 5 deg C difference. We never got to checking the printer temp. Tech said that when he checked with roland they said that's nothing to worry about... this is the...
  10. VS-640 issues

Which problems are you talking about in particular? From what I have experienced, the only thing I can think of is out of tolerance heater fluctuations. Either the thermostats are faulty or the heaters are screwy. No one wants to take responsibility and you just get rolodex treatment from...
  11. VS-640 issues

My humble apologies. I should have specified Roland DG AUSTRALIA.
  12. Homebrew winder and IR heater- 54"

You should send a blank email titled "feedback" to Roland and just attach those pics.
  13. VS-640 issues

At the end of the day, Roland DG doesn't want to take responsibility for anything, and will rarely fix something entirely for free even if you are in warranty. As morbid as this may sound, you're damned if you do and more damned if you don't. Just as you are there trying to make money by...
  14. VS640 vs Avery 1005EZRS

    Is your nozzle check AOK?
  15. Please help - VS 540 printing issue

4.1's been out for a while, 4.2 a couple weeks or so back. I'm currently on 4.1. I can't recall at which version it went away, but I had this happen to me twice within a week, after having no issue for about a year. Didn't do anything apart from update firmware and it went away, so I guess...
  16. Roland RS-640 Printing just stopped

I'm yet to encounter an issue, so would like to know in advance what issue/s I may face down the line doing this before something comes up. I run a colour managed workflow and embed profiles. What compression related issues are you referring to in particular?
  17. VersaWorks Problem

Used to happen to me all the time. Since my computer upgrade, it has only happened once. I still don't know what causes it, it just happens, no matter how fast or loaded your computer is. Just in case, go into your anti virus software and make sure you put versaworks.exe on the excluded list...
  18. Please help - VS 540 printing issue

    Actually 4.2.
  19. prints not solid on VS-640

The generic profiles, although not perfect, have actually worked not too badly for me on a variety of media. Usually a good starting point when diagnosing. The only thing is, they are a bit on the heavy ink usage side.
