While it’s true that the head heat error is often a bad thermistor in the head or a cable issue, we often see that error in the field when a head fuse blows. Sometimes replacing the fuse fixes it, sometimes it’s more extensive. On the single head printers, it’s a common occurrence.

Quoting Mutoh: all 2 head machines have a head fuse for each print head. They are located behind the large, black heat sinks at the top-right edge of the main board. They are both 750ma and should be labeled as F2 (head 1) and F5 (head 2) You must remove them to check continuity

When a head does not fire even one nozzle, it usually indicates a blown head fuse. When I am able this evening, I’ll look to see if the 1638 has a separate fuse for each head. When the head fuse blows, you’ll get a head temp error.
