It depends. If I'd be you, I'd pay a visit to some local dealer and spend a while in the showroom, ofc having your preferable media and desired print files with you.
After all, u r the one who decides in the end....
For real? What actually causes it?
I have repaired about hundred mainboards till now and never had a chance NOT TO succeed. All the problems are always the same - HV cascade or, at most, Epson drivers what happens pretty rearly.
1 hour with some regular soldering and measuring devices in hands...
Not all the 6 but at least one related to encoder, 5V power supply and probably HV.
Althou I'd actually replace em all as they tend to wear out about once in 5 years.
For the diagnostic purposes go to the service menu and perform Linear. check
It's a different story. That series doesn't even have Poland Intelligent Pass Control feature and other modern Roland tricks.
Anyways.... Go buy EJ and pass on XF.

as easy as get back to 4 colors model
makes no sense to have 8 colors installed and simulate 4 colors prints....
althou maybe yeah, in some cases it does.
there should be an option to choose the print mode so you can decide either you wanna use extra colors while printing or not so basically...
not really necessary unless they use 3rd party inks.
lol, depends on the rendering intent
using either of colormetric intents - yep, possible enough
using perceptual or saturation - impossible at all
i pretty much believe that previous jobs were done with perceptual intent (standard settings)...
