I run a 185 CFM diesel compressor and route the air through a 200 gallon receiver which drops the temp. considerably. You're right, the air needs to reach dew point to shed the moisture.
I strongly suspect that the OP's compressor will not be generating a significant amount of heated air...
Aside from a refrigerated dryer, a good coalescing filter/extractor will suffice. I use LaMan. They're pricey, but they work well. I run everything from the 50 CFM model all the way up to the 250 CFM. They're awesome. I do sandblasting and the air has to be practically bone dry...
This isn't sign related, but my uncle has done colonoscopies for many of Hollywood's most elite.

They have an extensive product line. For wooden signs, you may want to try Anchor 117. It's a high-tack...

Jonesville, Michigan USA: It took me years to figure out that I have a national treasure in my back yard. This is where the "magic-before-the-magic" happens.
There is a Pinstripers Hall of Fame in the front window...talk about eye candy.

The OP's heading on this thread:
we've been hired to repaint this exhibit at a zoo in Nashville but they have no record of the font used as it was a loooong time ago
Not in this day and age. Raw material inputs are typically the same for all manufacturers of this type of product. It'll be a fight to see who has the strongest supply chain, I suppose.
