  1. New windows update causes problems with fonts

Bumping this thread a couple weeks later. Does anyone know if Microsoft has fixed that one update that caused all the Postscript Type 1 font issues? Microsoft still seems to be pushing that update out to users, along with other updates.
  2. Adobe Illustrator CS6 Corel import filter broken

Is anyone suddenly having issues trying to import CorelDRAW artwork into Adobe Illustrator? I'm now having a problem doing so. Anytime I try to open or place a CorelDRAW file (saved down to the versions supported by Illustrator) I get the odd looking error message attached to this post. I...
  3. Attn: All Flexi users - fonts not working after the Windows update

Yesterday one of our older PCs, running Win XP Pro SP3 32-bit, got hit with this nonsense. All of a sudden, no fonts in Flexi. This morning my brand new desktop, running Win 8 Pro 64-bit, was showing the same problem in CorelDRAW X6 (64-bit version). TrueType fonts would work, but anything...
  4. Font ID help needed, handwriting genre

I'm trying to figure out what handwriting style typeface was used to create this restaurant logo. The type doesn't look like it came from a commercial foundry. I searched through sites like dafont and didn't have any luck. Thanks in advance for any help identifying this one.
  5. font should be easy but I cant get it

The text around the "G" looks very odd. Some of it looks like a condensed or compressed weight of Franklin Gothic that has been horizontally stretched, like the letter "R" for instance. Some of the other letters look like condensed weights of Helvetica. Definitely more than one typeface was...
  6. Need help with this script

The script in the attached image seems pretty familiar, but I just can't quite place it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help!
  7. Advertising using Facebook?

Facebook and Twitter both can help your business. But it all depends on how you use it. You need to advertise your Facebook or Twitter pages in other areas to let people know you can be found there. Such pages need to be updated regularly. I've seen lots of different businesses go the...
  8. Font ID Help Needed

The type in the attached example seems inspired by the Latin Wide typeface. But I don't think whoever made the graphic merely customized Latin Wide letters for this. Anyway, any help identifying this is appreciated.
  9. Ok you Apple Sheep !

These Mac vs. PC threads would be more interesting if the posts contained more in the way of specifics rather than the usual broadly brushed statements, stereotypes and myths. As great as Apple is doing in terms of its business numbers I think the company deserves some pretty serious criticism...
  10. Microsoft's big announcement...

Good Morning America covered the launch of the Microsoft Surface tablets this morning. The product strikes me as being a more fashionable looking netbook, given the fold out physical keyboard. My own 2¢ on the Microsoft Surface device: I've never felt the need to own a tablet. They're far too...
  11. Font help

The lettering is condensed weights of Univers. The lettering is skewed for the italic effect.
  12. Font ID Needed

Blazing is a knock-off of ITC Blaze. The font sample I provided is different from ITC Blaze.
  13. Font ID Needed

I'm stumped by this one. It looks like a mix between ITC Blaze and ITC Kick. Can't figure out what it is. TIA for any help!
  14. Font ID Help Needed

Yeah, I think Futura Light Condensed is the true source typeface for that lettering. The "designer" simply distorted the crud out of it, and performed a few more alterations on the letters (like the ''N") before ending the font torture. Another element in the artwork I received featured Penumbra...
  15. How to tell who owns the rights to artwork?

Many people, both customers and graphics service providers alike, have MANY misconceptions about artwork ownership. I recommend getting a copy of Tad Crawford's Legal Guide to the Visual Artist. Amazon linky. It has a lot of useful information regarding artwork ownership as well as the...
  16. Font ID Help Needed

I can't put my finger on it. There are hints of Peignot, Optima and Ocean Sans in it. The "W" is a real puzzler.
  17. Font ID Help Needed

I can't seem to figure out the typeface used in the attached sample. It made me thing of some kind of MS Office-bundled sans face or something along those lines. It came by way of some customer provided artwork -with all the lettering distorted (as usual). I'm guessing the proportions in the...
  18. Illustrator CS6: What do YOU think?

I wish I didn't have to upgrade, but probably will within the next few day or so. Adobe's upgrade policy is the main reason forcing the upgrade. I think that policy absolutely stinks because it would effectively let the company get off Scott free when releasing a version that simply isn't...
  19. Newer version Illy file can't open

Lack of experience and lack of reading any instructions are killers for any newbie being turned loose in Adobe Illustrator. Saving down to a "legacy" format is extremely easy to do. Same goes for converting type to outlines. Whenever I'm asked to send an Illustrator file to someone I always ask...
  20. QR codes - please weigh in

A QR code with contact information is great to put on a business card. QR codes can be used for more than merely providing a link to a web site or social networking page. You can have fun with the message aspect of it. I see little point in placing QR codes in yellow pages ads or on...
