My memory fails me, but is it possible to send a cmyk bitmap through to the edge and print it in white? I was pretty sure you could do that but forget how.

why not use Duracoat films. I switched over 15 years ago and they work as well or better than Gerber, and a lot cheaper too!!!

you could also put a weed border around copy to ensure that everything gets cut
