  1. do you use after market ink's

Well I ran Lyson for nearly 2 years after our warranty finished until at the start of the year stupidly I updated the firmware on my VJ 1604. I was told this would sort the problem I had with the sub tank valves sticking. All the firmware did was lock out further the smart cards and Lyson...
  2. Started noticing some lines on prints

GRIMREAPER How long have you had this machine? As your questions:- "How do I perform a nozzle check?" and "How do perform a head soak?" Should be a fairly routine procedure! Seems a bit strange you can replace cap tops, wipers and dampers but can't do a nozzle check or head soak. The big...
  3. Material buckling how to blame supplier?

Yes I ran the last 36" of the last roll through with no problems at all. I know my supplier will end up saying the problem is mine though. SC
  4. Material buckling how to blame supplier?

Our supplier for our standard printable vinyl (every day stuff) is a company called APA which is a Italian company. On Friday Evening after running almost 100 Metres of their material through the machine this week, I loaded a new roll from them into the machine. Once it starts after 4-8" in the...
  5. Oracal 651 problems

Never had an issue with 651 it's my bread and butter. Use about 3-400 metres of this a month and the only thing I have noticed this year is the backing sheet print is different. I had an issue 2 years ago with our supplier who was making out he couldn't source any 651 and as soon as I had posted...
  6. Wrap copying?

I have found people wanting a break down on prices are either a competitor or a time waster. Give them a much increased price and walk away. You now will have a much increased chance of getting the job. SC
  7. Printing lightbox panels

We are printing onto vinyl. The original specification was for laser cut/inlaid acrylic panels, but we have serviced their previously supplied sign and it takes at least 4 hours work to rebuild it as it is so fragile. SC

  9. Printing lightbox panels

I don't print many lightboxes but have 3 todo this week. The panels are 5mm white Acrylic. Is their a special setting like double passing that I should use? We are using Wasatch or Signlab 9.1 to RIP on our VJ1604. Thanks SC
  10. nozzles clogged?

This pump lines blocking is a common occurrence and needs rectified quickly or else what is blocked now end up permanent. I have found that the pump will block up with ease if a little cleaning fluid isn't poured into the capping station weekly. DO NOT put the cleaning cartridges in as they are...
  11. Head strikes on Zorbix 10oz with 1204

That looks like a banner material? I knock the rear and middle heater off when printing banner and raise the head. Banner should be printed with the head height on the highest setting. I guarantee this is the problem. SC
  12. 92 Volvo 240 Paint wrap...

I want to wrap my Volvo 1992 940 wagon so it looks like a tank but it is an on going project! SC
  13. Printing on reflective vinyl

I have printed on reflective before and the ink just sat on top and it did not dry. I am running ecosol inks in my mutoh vj1604. I would print on clear then apply it to reflective and overlaminate it. SC
  14. VJ Ink Usage

Magenta gets used the most on any CMYK printer as it is the one colour that is used for a lot of colours. Also the more you use it the less waste is used to keep it clean, sounds weird but it does. Lastly the machine takes I think almost 1/2 of each cartridge to fill the sub tanks and relevant...
  15. How much wrap work do you do?

Hi I would love to do a lot more vehicle wrapping and use our printer to its full extent. But Initial costs for design work and then cost in materials severely make this form of advertising expensive (at least in the customers eyes). I realise that it is all about selling vehicle wraps as...

I would like to test your material.... I'm in the UK though but that would give you an even bigger market. Cheers Sean
  17. I love customers artwork!

I thought the artwork was pretty good. Most of my customers expect me to be able to extract the idea from playing .... Guess what I'm thinking of now! I don't mind rough sketches and one of my best money makers was sketched on the inside of a cigarette packet. SC SC
  18. Avery Tattoo Vinyl

I have used window etch film which gives the same result. SC
  19. Chrome wrap... it may be real this time...

A local car franchise asked us to do a chrome wrap on a off roader we hit them with a huge price mainly due to never doing a chrome vehicle. They ended up sending it to one of our main competitors who wrapped it for quarter of what we quoted! My business partner was at a local car show where...
  20. color matching when printing????

This is a very very hard colour to match, sometimes it looks too dark other times it will look to dull. The problem unless you have a printer with orange you will never come anywhere near with a CMYK printer. SC
