  1. Where do you shop for your supplies? Media / inks / comsumables

Trimming out talented people saves money too... lol. Out our way a lot of dealers try to get rid of their older mechanics to reduce salaries. They weed out the talent and then car dealers want you to service with them as sales don't make enough money. Greed and no long term vision
  2. Where do you shop for your supplies? Media / inks / comsumables

I am not saying to buy from Grimco, for those just entering the conversation, but to know what is possible with them. They can be a good source sometimes. That said, this strategy of buying up smaller supply companies likely ends with jacking up prices to pay for it (so essentially your...
  3. Where do you shop for your supplies? Media / inks / comsumables

You don't have to act big and bad, just tell ask them if they can do better. It does help to have a comparable - maybe what you used to pay. And you don't have to use them, but I made the suggestion because some folks may not realize you can get better pricing if you ask. Somebody else...
  4. Where do you shop for your supplies? Media / inks / comsumables

You can talk to your Grimco Sales Rep and they will adjust prices.
  5. Matthews cleaner alternatives

    How about Matthews 6428SP...
  6. This should be fun. :o

that vinyl is 5year Intermediate. Judging by the UV damage to the existing panels, I would say it will need to be replaced in 5 years and it will be cracked and baked dead. Vinyl will stick to the aluminum sides of the panels - just need to clean with Windex and follow with Isopropyl Alcohol to...
  7. Suggestions New Flatbed Printer Suggestions

FluidColor is a good choice and price point is very good. They start out with Ricoh Gen 6 heads, so quality is not a problem. The vacuum on any flatbed printer is going to be the source of the most noise, but you need to use it most of the time to keep stuff flat. One of the advantages of...
  8. Frosted Glass Vinyl

We just use Avery Etchmark and put it on wet with Right On or Rapid Tac. We do usually mask the Etchmark. On a curved surface you just have to take your time and work the wet out. But a solid felt squeegee, like an Oshee, can be very helpful.
  9. Clear, thick, permanent vinyl?

I'd run these on OraCal 3551 Rapid Air polymetric intermediate vinyl and use an intermediate laminate. Weed, trim out and ready to apply The Rapid Air (air release) is perfect for ease of installation and being polymetric it would be very stable. Other brands should have equivalents.
  10. Best Black Reflective for wraping police chevrons?

I suggest biting the bullet and upgrading. We previously used Avery reflective and it was much harder to lay and didn't like to lay in contour or stick to edges. We've been using 3M ever since some of our Fire Company repairs required it and now stock several colors in 3M - we no longer purchase...
  11. Question Is Mimaki UJV 100-160plus worth it comparing it to UCJV330?

Yes, we do use 600x1200 on large signs and 1200x1200 for most of our stuff. But 600x1200 actually comes out really well for us. So maybe needs calibration for that quality.
  12. Roland Sheet Cut

We have the XR640 and you hold the Sheet Cut buttom for 2 seconds and it beeps and then proceeds to go across the vinyl and cut it on the way back
  13. Question Is Mimaki UJV 100-160plus worth it comparing it to UCJV330?

We have the UCJV330 and love it. Instant dry, fast, high resolution, great color gamut, can print color white and then color on clear films and vinyl, easy maintenance. Only negatives are that the machine likes to go to sleep often if not running, and it decides to recirculate the ink for 15...
  14. Cutting is off slightly

if you set the print and cut up in Flexi and add the marks, and then print in Versaworks, you put the print in the Graphtec and initialize it, then you move the knife bland to the center of the right hand crop mark (standing in front of the machine) and instead of choosing Cut/Plot you choose...
  15. Vinyl Recommendation

Any good cast vinyl. If printing I would recommend: Avery MPI1105, OraFol 3951RA, or any other air release cast vinyl with strong initial tack. Laminate it with a good UV cast laminate and you are good.
  16. Question Ricoh GEN5

Sounds like air in the head. You should have a bleed line for each head with which you can uncap the line, aim it down into the waste ink, and hit your Ink Priming button. I would do them all. Alternatively or after bleeding the line, you could lower the vacuum pressure and let the heads drip...
  17. Aluminum Composite vs Aluminum vs Alumalite ??

Yes, free standing or attached to a post the wind can bend these. I would use 080 Aluminum or 1/2' MDO Plywood as a base in this case
  18. Amazing Employees

Good people don't cost you money, they make you money. You have to pay him more to keep him, otherwise you perpetually start and train people for other companies.
  19. laminating experience, different methods actually used by members. mono print with poly lam?

For vehicles we use cast vinyl with a cast uv laminate - either a wrap vinyl for full or partial wraps, or a air release vinyl for partial wraps or large logos. For box trucks we have wrapped the box (basically a flat surface) with cast wrap vinyl, cast air release vinyl, or with polymeric air...
  20. How to Laminate Gold Engine Turn Overlaid on Black

Use Cast UV Laminate and plot the lettering out larger than the Sign Gold. Note: Sign Golds says you should edge seal it, so I think the issue isn't the material but to protect the adhesive and edges from wear.
