  1. New Product Epson 60600 vs Summa DC5

What Summa plotter? I have heard great things about them in the past from others on here, but we REALLY hate ours here. It always jams up and ruins materials, ever since it was new. We only cut solid color vinyl with ours now and use Mimaki plotters (CG-160FX) for cutting our prints.
  2. Onyx Rip changing tiles on its own?

I had the other prepress guy here try to get the file to work and he checked it and found all settings should be ok (just like you all have listed above). We've both been running Onyx for around 6 or so years, so we're not new to it or tiling. We dropped the same file back in and it ripped it...
  3. illustrator large vector file question

If you ever have a file that just wont save, it is usually the "preview" that is causing the saving error. Turn off visibility for the layer with everything complicated and hit save; that will at least allow you to save your work until later.
  4. Looking for vector lake maps

I know there is a way to get the topo data from the maps online. Look up 3D laser/CNC cut lake maps and see if someone has it posted on where they get their data.
  5. Question Whats your squeegee type for installing ?

Our guys just about only use the Geekwrap squeegees now as far as regular size squeegees go.
  6. Need Help Drawing for dimensional letters?

We just cut an 1/8" offset "paint mask" for our installers from low tack vinyl. they apply that to the wall and put the letters in the holes. After the letters are applied, they pull the mask off.
  7. Tips For Reducing Wastage

Charge appropriately for your work, and include the "drop" or waste in the pricing. Just because the customer only wants a 4'x4' sign doesn't mean you didn't have to buy a 4'x8' substrate and print on a 54"x54"+ piece of material. We have so much waste that it becomes cluttered after just a few...
  8. New Product Epson 60600 vs Summa DC5

I'm betting that the people at your local dealership aren't too familiar with running the printers, as it appears they are having issues with profiles. We have two Edge machines here that run every day, but there is no way we would ever consider getting a wide format thermal printer these days...
  9. Seeking Employment in Dayton, OH

I'm sure there are a few openings up that way, check around on Google maps compared to where you're going to be living and see what ones look best t you. I know there are some in the suburbs like Centerville, Germantown, etc also that wouldn't be a bad commute. The photog community in the area...
  10. Printer options

Keep looking, I know that the Roland is a very old model and is not really competitive for printing quality and the inks/parts are also getting expensive as they are no longer in high demand. I'm betting the Mutohs are also getting older. Call your local sales reps and see if they have any demo...
  11. Onyx Rip changing tiles on its own?

Recently we have been having issues with Onyx changing the amount of tiles in a ripped job after we have manually went in and set the tile size in the Job Editor. I seem to notice it more when we rip a file with 54 inch media set, and then modify the media to 48 inches. It "should" just say that...
  12. How Concerned should I be about Gassing Out a print?

We wait whenever possible, but I've also rushed many panels over the years. Especially replacement panels damaged by installers or emergency rush jobs. I've never seen a failure either, but always been worried that one day I'd see it happen. When we had full solvent printers (Mimaki JV3) we...
  13. Print on matte black

Not exactly night, but in the install garage with a few lights off.
  14. Need Help Printing White

It'd look nice to print an alligator skin pattern on the windows. We did these animals for a local university's library and they looked awesome.
  15. Print on matte black

Oh yeah, on IJ680CR no less. Not an inexpensive wrap.
  16. Need Help Printing White

You cannot convert a 60600 (dual cmyk) to an 80600 (white ink model). If you need it printed in white ink, we can handle that for you; we have an Epson 70675 that prints white ink quite well.
  17. Print on matte black

What about using black reflective and printing black on that. Flood everything with black except for the logo and then laminate with black. We did white reflective this way (white ink) and it turned out really cool.
  18. Suggestions New Printer, HP vs Epson

Epson 60600 if you're thinking production could ramp up; but if you're printing only that much vinyl (we print that much in 1-2 days) then a 40600 would be adequate for you. I agree with everything posted above in SignMeUpGraphics post about how ours is also.
  19. Need Help New printer

60600 all the way. Sure you have to wait a few hours to laminate, but if you can't you're scheduling your printing/jobs wrong. And as far as cleaning/maintenance, yes, we have to empty the waste bottle every so often and rarely have to clean the heads/caps much (yes, we run it all day every...
  20. Epson S80600 metallic/white quality

I really recommend the 60600 over the 80600. The white, metallic, orange and other non-CMYK colors are NOT warranted and DO FADE. The 60600 is super fast and the prints carry the MCS warranty through 3M if you are in that program. We also have a 70675 with all the colors (running a non-orange...
