  1. Texas' High-school Football Obsession and half million dollar sign

Actually look at the letter the superintendent linked at the bottom of the page on the left. A single individual fronted the money for it to get it put up faster, but it was the booster club that was going to raise the funds for it from private donations. Now the single individual is being paid...

Don't choose Pantone colors to define your gradients.
  4. What's everyone's go to for cut white vinyl for vehicles?

Just curious how it's quicker to use air release vinyl? Taping and measuring and squeegeeing would seem to be the same regardless of the vinyl, as far as time goes.
  5. help with font

Excavating is Eurostile Extended Bold (or Square Extended Bold) that has been slanted.
  6. What's everyone's go to for cut white vinyl for vehicles?

For cut vinyl we use Avery 750 if the durability doesn't need to be longer than 5 years and there is no conforming necessary. If we want it more durable we use Avery 950 or 3M 7125. These are vinyls that are meant for cutting. You really don't need air release for cut vinyl lettering. If you...
  7. X-Rite i1Studio - Any feedback?

The i1Studio is not supported by Onyx. Here's the list of supported devices: https://www.onyxgfx.com/supported-devices/colordevice/ Do you have a version of Onyx that includes profiling software? You have to have Production House or higher to actually complete a profile.
  8. laminate is too thick

The standard material for sports helmet decals is Convex. It uses regular 4 mil vinyl to print on and 12 mil laminate. The combination you are using is too thick if you can't get it to conform to the helmet. People may ask for thicker decals, but on a helmet that gets collision contact, the...
  9. Is this a clean print head??

In general if the printer isn't running and circulating ink, the head is probably clogged and dead. Edit...didn't see that it was a Gerber Edge.
  10. Reflective aluminum signs

I think Gino is talking about printing with an ordinary run of the mill sign printer using the same kinds of CMYK inks used on regular signs, not with specially developed Avery spot color inks for traffic signs.
  11. Reflective aluminum signs

Grimco will custom cut blanks for you. You just have to call and have it quoted as a custom order for you. You could get raw aluminum, powder coated or reflective sheeted custom cut 4x4's.
  12. How do you build a sign frame inside a brick monument?

The cheapest method would be to screw some lumber to the brick pillars with masonry screws in anchors, run some lumber stringers across the width, then screw an ACM sign to the stringers that essentially fills the space. It'll be ugly from the back unless you make it two sided. You can also...
  13. Wind speeds, post sizes and hole size and depth for a 4'x8' panel ground sign

If they are willing to go back and change things in the online calculator, maybe you can prevail upon them to change the post type to 4"x4" treated yellow pine and find that it's OK.
  14. Printing white on Epson S80600

If you can't get it to work in Corel it's because you haven't set up your custom palette with the spot color correctly. We use Corel, and all we had to do was follow the instructions from the RIP manufacturer on how to create and name the custom spot color for each of the Epson's spot inks and...
  15. Printing white on Epson S80600

I've never tried it with the white, but on our Epson S70670, which has both white and silver, we just set the percentage of silver we want in Corel Draw's object fill, and when we send it to print, it does it just like any other color. Don't see why that wouldn't work with the white too.
  16. Need help, hand written looking with no cross on the A

Could always just flip a V upside down rather than vector edit the A....
  17. Wind speeds, post sizes and hole size and depth for a 4'x8' panel ground sign

Yes, depth of hole depends greatly on depth of the frost line. Otherwise when it freezes it will push the sign up out of the ground. It's funny, though, how these builder types have no concept of what is really holding the sign up straight and keeping it there. When I first started in the sign...
  18. Suggestions where can I purchas eco solvent flushing solution or can I make it myself?

Why are you needing to flush print heads? Generally that's only necessary when changing ink types or to try to rescue dried up heads. Or if you're going to try to put a printer into storage.
  19. Some clients...

Generally, if I have made a sign or sold business cards to someone in the past, and later they want the "file" to use on other projects, I tell them straight up there is a charge for sending them the file. Often, if it's to go on a website or to make their own letterhead in MS Word, I'll send...
  20. Wind speeds, post sizes and hole size and depth for a 4'x8' panel ground sign

Just figured out where they got 24x36 for the hole size from and the requirement for 6x6's. It's the minimum size hole you can do on this calculator, which also tells you that a 4x4 is undersized unless your sign is 4x7 or smaller if it's pressure treated fir #2. It does allow it if it's...
