  1. Papyrus...

You can also add Blackadder. Nothing sends a plotter into fitful spasms like a nice jagged typeface. JB
  2. USB ports Powering Down-Help needed how to fix!

I used to have a similar problem on an older Gateway computer whenever I plugged in my camera to a USB to download photos. My SignLab dongle (plugged into another USB port) would somehow not be recognized and would only function when I re-booted the computer. It took me about six months...

  5. Text fill in Omega

Who actually set those "standards"...Adobe, Corel, or somebody else? JB
  6. Text fill in Omega

I'm so used to CTRL+ G for grouping in Illustrator & SignLab but that's been replaced by F5 and F6 in Omega. Overall, I really like the features it has. JB
  7. Text fill in Omega

After some more tinkering, I noticed I was in wireframe view. I clicked on the fill view and...behold, I now have color fills. Thanks anyway. JB
  8. Text fill in Omega

I just started using Omega and can't find how to assign vinyl colors to text. All I see it outlined text. In SignLab or Illustrator, it's just a simple color fill, but I looked in the help menu and didn't find that. Thanks in advance. JB
  9. Modified Roman Family

Welcome to the forum. We also do monument work and have primarily used SignLab and Adobe Illustrator. The modified roman fonts in SignLab are mediocre at best, and I have a couple of ttf fonts that also rank the same. Three weeks ago, I found a brand new copy (never opened) of Gerber...

  12. Complacency in Business?

Just finished the first chapter, and it's well worth the time and money. An eBay seller has new copies pretty reasonably priced. JB
  13. ALL My Fonts Keep Disappearing in Illustrator - WTF?

I like having everything in a font manager program...just in case. JB
  14. Domain Name

Sift through the older threads...there's quite a bit of discussion about the x-factor...such as "graphix", "x-treme"...and so on. Trendy, but not timeless. JB
  15. Thank you Cricket Plotter forums!

The quote is lifted from the blog...ha! If they really knew what they were paying for their proprietary vinyl. I don't think I'd be too worried about them taking over our business models too soon. Their cost inputs are multiple times greater than ours. JB
  16. Complacency in Business?

True, but I sometimes find a little inspiration is helpful for changing my ways of thinking. But as you mention, actions are what count and it's important to turn those new ways of thinking to become habits. JB
  17. What do you collect

I have focused my efforts on a rather unique collection. Essentially, it is a box full of memorabilia of me, intended to be handed down to my grandchildren one day. Right now it's just a collection of stuff, but I need to sit down and write the back stories to each item and how it was...
  18. Complacency in Business?

As any good business owner knows, our real competitors aren't the ones across the street. They're the ones in our head. And it's usually about this time of the year when complacency can begin to settle in. "Soft" choices and indecision can be real business killers. I'm planning to do...
  19. variable data

I'm not using it for bar codes, but we do up to six lines of text on each 8 x 8 brick we do. The data for one brick inscription is all contained in a single row of an Excel file. The information in cell A1 goes on the first line, the info in cell A2 goes on the second line and so on (see...
  20. variable data

We do a ton of data merging with SignLab's "badge" function. We engrave several thousand "donor" bricks a year, and our clients submit the inscription data to us in either a MS Excel file or a MS Word file (or a tab spaced text file). It saves us a ton of time and places the burden of proof...
