Aye, but in the not-so-old days of (wet) photography, a smaller aperture lens setting always results in a greater depth of field. JB

  5. This isn't looking good...major CPA trouble

I had to have my CPA file for an extension with our taxes this year. I dropped of all my precisely detailed paperwork to him on April 14, and he said it wouldn't be a problem. Well, today it became a problem. I've been on him at least four times this summer, and his assistant always...
  6. Half a Billion powerball

Perhaps. But how many rock stars, lotto winners, millionaires, etc...are truely content with all the toys and money...let alone still with the same girl they knew in eighth grade? Money sure as h3ll doesn't fix malignant cancer in a child, the shriveled kidneys of a parent, divorce...
  7. Half a Billion powerball

I'm intentionally not going to play. I have absolutely no desire to let something like that ruin me. Yep...I still gotta stack of bills staring me in the face, but I'm a happy camper running my own business with a wife (highschool sweetheart of 31 years) who still adores me, and the best kids...

  14. Etchmark with a sparkle?

We typically do stone and monument engraving and were asked by a funeral home to etch their tinted doors. Since funeral homes eventually change ownership over the years, I suggested that they use a frosted vinyl on the glass instead of etching. I've heard of something called Etchmark, but I'm...
  15. Shop organization examples

The beauty of 5S is that safety, security and (employee) satisfaction can easily be implemented into a well-planned work environment. The only difficult part is breaking out of the "that's the way we've always done it" mentatlity. Since my work is primarily seasonal (monuments, outdoor...
  16. Shop organization examples

Now let's take it one step further with another subject: 5S (sort, set, shine, standardize, sustain) For the uninitiated, here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5S_(methodology) It can be applied to every work situation and is amazingly simple to initiate and maintain. For me, a...
  17. best software for the newbies?

Now that you have those three, continue to learn them all. I believe you'll find "must have" features in each, that the other's do not have. I currently use Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop, SignLab & AutoCAD and I have strong intentions on adding a Gerber Omega layout station when some money...
  18. Ever throw yourself under the bus to LOSE a job?

Find his most expensive house listing, and have him personally give you the tour. Let him wait a week and then casually mention you're trying to cut a deal with the owner instead. That should be able to open some dialogue. JB
  19. Black friday!!

Adobe had some outstanding deals last year. I got the PSCS5 upgrade for $135.00 delivered. And now that the cloud has changed all that, it will be interesting to see if they do something special again this year. But as of late, I've been in a "thankful for what I have" attitude, and I plan...
  20. Generating Proofs

You can do a template for that in any design/cut/print program. The final output is what they're asking for. Some of those programs already have PDF output capabilities. In my opinion, a PDF file is the easiest format for any customer to review. JB
