  1. Discussion How do you handle this type of deal?

Thanks Kate f - the only thing I've bartered is baseball cards when I was young. Now I just buy the ones I want and sell the ones I don't. Can see bartering working on personal items, i.e. my junk is another man's treasure, but seems inefficient in business. Have had a couple of offers for...
  2. Discussion How do you handle this type of deal?

Just want to tap your wisdom so I can be as smart as you.
  3. Good morning...from Texas

I'm thinking a generator is a better investment.
  4. Discussion How do you handle this type of deal?

Isn't bartering the same as exchanging money for goods? Besides cheating the tax man, what's the advantage?
  5. Good morning...from Texas

I remember flying in to DFW years ago just as an ice storm hit. Never saw so many 4wd pickups and suburbans flying off the road so fast; like a pinball game. Next day was in the 50's.
  6. Texans may not want to print today....

Is it wrong to pray for Victor's Rolands? They are cold and without power.
  7. Licensing IP to yourself....

If it's Intellectual Property lucrative enough to be potential retirement income, I would hire a law firm specializing in IP/patents. Not a DIY project. (I have a fair amount of experience working with IP firms in past business dealings; way too many ways to get ripped off if you don't cover...
  8. Texans may not want to print today....

In solidarity with the great state of Texas, we won't be printing today. (Well, really because that crap is headed our way and our employees live in the boonies)
  9. Question Doing Profit/Loss sheet on every job?

We're small so use a self-developed spreadsheet to quote and job cost every job except banners, coro signs and small qty. labels. Those have a price list for quick quotes. Takes about 2-3 minutes for most print, print cut and vinyl applied to substrate. Well worth it. Complex jobs a little...

  11. can you explain "Spot Colors"?

I come from the old offset world so this rings familiar. When we talk about color with customers, we try to manage expectations referring to 'pleasing' color instead of 'color matching' for example. One nice advantage of digital is the ability to quickly generate a color proof, which we do for...
  12. Yo.... Signage

Geez, I'll bet Robert's glad the attention is being deflected to signage.

  14. Vinyl suggestion for truck&trailer wrap job

You'll get suggestions for all of the above and then some. We like the new Arlon SLX2 and use that on a local fleet. Wraps well hot or cold and weeds nice if you need to do any print/cut. Great value $$ too.

  16. can you explain "Spot Colors"?

Spot Colors are laid down in solid blocks of ink in those specific colors eg. screen print, letterpress or offset printing are examples. You probably know that CMYK is a mix of Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black inks in dot patterns which can be mixed to simulate Spot colors (process printing)...
  17. How do I get back into the Sign Community

This may not be what you want to hear, but you might consider a job change. If the place you work offers no personal growth, doesn't experiment with new processes, education or equipment, and is confined to doing work internally, I wouldn't want to work there. Get a job at a larger growing...
  18. I'm worried...

Very deep. I think you might have the makings of a consulting business. You can cover the east coast, and Robert can cover the west.
  19. I'm worried...

Come on Gino - did you sleep through philosophy class? Surely you've heard the saying...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If_a_tree_falls_in_a_forest
  20. I'm worried...

If a tree fell in the woods, would Robert be listening?
