  1. Profiling a L26500

Are you using an external or onboard spectro?
  2. Restriction by Chroma vs Total Ink Limit

Mine was the latest version from around the date I started this thread. It's interesting that they now say to ignore that when it's repeated at least 3 or 4 times in the manual. The experienced colour management tech who did my install also said the same (but he dumbed down a lot of info for me...
  3. Averege $/hr for wrapper in the US

Ship em over this way! An experienced installer would easily be $25 per hour/$52k per year. We've been advertising for months for an experienced signwriter and haven't had 1 qualified applicant, ended up getting someone who's just finished their apprenticeship (about $20/hr here).
  4. Lowball jobs...

My pricing would be around $350. I'd simply explain that you couldn't possibly use high quality materials and dedicate enough time to develop an effective design for that price.
  5. Good clear media for latex printer

I regularly print on Avery DOL2000.
  6. Roland Unreliable and Expensive

Wow, what a shocking run. I'm not sure what your warranty is over there, but in Aus they're sold with a 5 year "heads and all" warranty. One of mine is over 6 years old and the other is 2 or so years old, and I don't think I've ever forked out for any replacement parts (a few heads is all...
  7. high production printing cost on HP Latex printer

I thought I'd throw this in for reference. HP FB500 (CMYKcm) Substrate usage 61,050.30 ft² Substrate usage 5,671.79 m² Ink family HP 792 total usage 40227 ml Cartridge costs $585/3000ml (And that's with a 15% supplier discount. I'll take some of those $450 cartridges from above please!) Ink...
  8. high production printing cost on HP Latex printer

    It seems I do Bly.
  9. high production printing cost on HP Latex printer

I thought I'd update this with some real figures. Our L26500 stats currently are: Substrate usage 59,291.01 ft² Substrate usage 5,508.32 m² Ink family HP 792 total usage 54107 ml* Cartridge costs $165/775ml (higher Aussie prices) Ink usage ml/ft2 = 54107/59291 = 0.9125668313909362 Ink cost...
  10. Decided to go with a different name...new logo

"Signs & Designs" looks to elongated to me. Perhaps something narrower or the same font in a narrower version, with the symbol, "INFINITY", and "Signs & Designs" at the same width for better visual alignment.
  11. $15 bucks.......................... wha....................

Indeed. I was talking with a signwriting business in remote Queensland and to compete with mining industry wages the admin staff were on $40/hr and tradespeople $60/hr+. It's difficult to say what direct effect the minimum wage has on cost of living, as we've also got less than 1/10th the...
  12. $15 bucks.......................... wha....................

Is minimum wage age-dependent in the US? Here in Aus the national minimum wage is just over $16 per hour, but most industry-specific minimum wages are higher than that. That's for a full-time employee (4 weeks holidays, 2 weeks sick leave per year), casual employees get an extra 25% loading in...
  13. Onyx Production House VS. Caldera

Caldera has true shape nesting as an optional extra, it sounds like it'd save you a bundle of time and.materials.
  14. HP L26500 & 3M IJ480 CV3 colour fading

Interestingly the Arlon supplied profile I was using previous for a l26500/Arlon dpf6000xrp/Photoprint combo used a high ink setting. I've just done a custom profile this week for our new Caldera install at 10 pass low ink but I haven't given it a real test yet.
  15. Restriction by Chroma vs Total Ink Limit

Cheers, that's what I ended up doing as the bleed test showed cyan was too heavy. I figured that the shift wasn't adding significantly to gamut anyway.
  16. Restriction by Chroma vs Total Ink Limit

I haven't had a great deal of time for experimenting in the past fortnight, but does anyone have ideas on if or how the hue shift should be taken into account in the individual restrictions? Eg. in the linearisation below, max chroma occurs and the 83%, but there's a large hue shift past 60%...
  17. System for naming/archiving files

I figure you can always select ordering by date within explorer, whereas if you've got the date first then you can't ever order by name.
  18. Cutting Alumalite

We use a treadle guillotine for cuts under 51" wide - it's quick, leaves no mess and gives a perfect edge. Above that we'd either hand-cut to crops or pre-cut the sheet on our 5x10' router. We've got a Fletcher-type vertical cutter with ACP cutting wheels but the guillotine is much better for a...
  19. System for naming/archiving files

We started a new system 3-4 years ago that's been working well for us. We always include the client's name in the file name so that it can be identified in isolation (eg. sent for something outsourced, emailed, uploaded to the RIP, etc), and enough info that you know what it is from the file...

It's that sweet sweet cast smell!
