  1. Raises?

No, it doesn't surprise me, but given that logic, doesn't that make every thug with a weapon a legitimate authority? I mean, someone sticking a gun in a woman's face and telling her to get in the van always seemed blatantly evil to me. What surprises me is that you would argue that he is...
  2. Raises?

Americans were pretty easy to dupe. We rebelled over the notion of being subjects of a King, so we simply rebranded "royalty" as "government". Same product, different packaging. Is that the only thing that makes authority legitimate? The ability to kill people who disagree with your...
  3. Raises?

No, although it is a good idea not to answer police questions. But, no, this is about me recognizing that the government takes a huge bite out of each and every paycheck that I earn and wastes most of it on dumb stuff. I don't like being compelled to pay for wars I don't agree with, laws I...
  4. Raises?

So? Where did I agree to pay for any of it?
  5. Raises?

And you're not making any arguments. You're also letting other people answer questions for you. I'll ask you again. Why is is wrong for me to take money out of your bank account and then spend it on services (and my administration fee) that I decide you need? What is the principle that I am...
  6. Raises?

Ah, I see. Okay, so we aren't talking about services or me using the roads or anything else. The actual reason why government officials are allowed to reach into your pocket and take your money is because a small group of elite men wrote stuff on a piece of paper over 200 years ago.
  7. Raises?

Could you please elaborate on why it would be wrong of me to take your money, cut myself off a little administration fee, and then spend that money on goods or services that I think you need? Please explain why that is wrong.
  8. Raises?

By your logic, I could steal money from your bank account and then use some of that money (I'd have to pay myself, of course) to select and send groceries to your home. If you didn't like me stealing your money you could move to a different country.
  9. Raises?

I did not request nor did I agree to pay for any government services or infrastructure.
  10. What Vinyl to use, help pls

I'm betting whatever you end up using, you should consider the UV punishment it's going to take. Looking at that location on google maps and that whole side of the building faces South (and not much shade). If longevity is your goal, see if you can work in some UV protection.
  11. Raises?

I do see your point in a more abstract sense, but someone demanding that you give them a share of what you work for is a much more practical example of slavery. We work, they take. We are not a free people.
  12. Tipping Question

I've had happy customers slip my install guys a couple of bucks here and there. Sometimes it's just friendly service and a bit of banter, followed up by the feel good conversation of "This looks great on your building, I think people are going to love it."
  13. Raises?

    lol... what?
  14. Raises?

I disagree. Taxation is slavery. Also, see the Laffer Curve.
  15. Raises?

Interesting side note, a pre-1965 Franklin half dollar has $8.65 worth of silver in it. So, if you got paid in 50 cent pieces, someone making that $1.25 minimum wage would earn (on average) $21.65 worth of silver (in today's dollars) per hour. I'd GLADLY carry the silver.
  16. Raises?

This thread was a question about how much should raises be. I answered it. That was not an economic lesson.
  17. Raises?

Interesting side note, a Washington quarter minted before 1965 contains about $4.32 in silver. So, if you got paid that $1.25 in quarters, you would be earning about $21.60 in today's dollars per hour.
  18. Raises?

More and more I hear stories like what you just said. People looking back through their lives or their parents lives and realizing how much prices have risen. The ones that really get me are the stories of men who worked one job and were able to support a whole family of like 4 kids and their...
  19. Raises?

    Agreed. It is a tightrope.
  20. Raises?

In January of 2004, the average cost of a pound of ground beef was $2.59 (according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Today, that same pound of ground beef will cost you $5.09 per pound. This is how money printing steals from everyone - over the last 20 years (at least if you measure it...
