  1. Black and White

More often than not I'll have all kinds of colorful text and whatnot over top of a B&W image...so you can't mess with the B&W without screwing up all the other colors in the artwork. Arrrg!! Don't even get me started on my printer sometimes printing bars instead smooth gradients.....(*sigh*) I...
  2. Black and White

Thanks for the advice....I kind of figured as much. Yet another thing I can add to the list of digital printing realities that my bosses and clients won't really understand....lol
  3. Black and White

    (bump) Anyone?
  4. Black and White

I'm sure this issue has been addressed here before but I'm hoping for some information that I can use to apply to my specific situation: Roland SC-540 Roland COLORIP ver 2.2 I recieve files in various formats (.jpeg .tif .eps .pdf) with various color settings (RGB, CMYK) and I'm having...
  5. VJ-1604 issue

.....remarkably, the problem seems to have fixed itself. (?????) Anyway, they are/were fuzzy white dots..Like stars. Bad vinyl. I'm guessing the different ink profile on the Roland caused the dots to be absent. All seems well on the Mutoh now. Curious.
  6. VJ-1604 issue

Yep..same vinyl. The same roll prints fine on my Roland.
  7. VJ-1604 issue

Nozzle check fine...no gaps. Running Mutoh-branded EcoSol Ultra. At first I thought it might be defective vinyl (3M IJ35-20) so I changed rolls..dots remain. Again, seems worse in black areas. Bad ink cart?
  8. VJ-1604 issue

I'm getting little irregular white dots in my prints...Tried different media, different files, cleanings..problem still persists. Seems worse with black. I've been getting these two warnings lately: Life Times [Pnmp] Life Times [PF Motor] Has something finally gone bad?
  9. Static electricity

After I go through a 150' roll of laminate, the wound up liner sometimes builds up so much static on my laminator's take up reel it's next to impossible to remove. Anyone have any ideas on how to either discharge the static or keep it from building up in the first place?
  10. Mutoh VJ-1604 Life Times warnings

Thanks for the info...How easy are these printers to work on? I'm trying to become a bit more self sufficient in my shop and I'm somewhat mechanically inclined (but I know my limitations). Can I change these parts out myself? Tried to work on my Roland and everything seemed like it was going...
  11. whoops.

...Heh heh. Yep, I did. Sorry guys, bear with me.
  12. whoops.

While changing a print head on my SC-540, I accidentally entered the head rank number incorrectly. Is that a problem?
  13. Mutoh VJ-1604 Life Times warnings

Each time a print finishes, I get two warnings: Life Times [Pnmp] and Life Times [PF Motor]. I know that these warnings are set to appear after each part has a certiant number of hours on it, but how do I know when they actually need replacement? Print quality is fine. The only issues it has are...
  14. What gets you to the shop and back?

Used to be a 1972 Ford LTD ragtop....Sold it when we had a kid (great trade, tho!) Now it's my wife's old '01 Ford Explorer.....
  15. Changing a print head on Roland SC-540

Alright...thanks for the advice, guys. I really appreciate it. Is cool to find a forum that's not snarky and cliqueish like others I've visited. Now all I need is a service manual :). Anyone know where I can find a .pdf to download?
  16. Changing a print head on Roland SC-540

I'm new to this board..but I've been at this for a while. Not afraid to take things apart. Techs are a bit hard to get ahold of and expensive, as we all know. Define "horribly wrong"...
  17. Changing a print head on Roland SC-540

    Bump... Anyone?
  18. Changing a print head on Roland SC-540

Howdy y'all.. New to the forum and I'm wondering how difficut it is to change out a black print head on a Roland SolJet SC-540. I've heard you can blow cleaner through the head to try and get back some of the deflecting jets (I've got major overspray issues) but I've never tried that either...
