  1. Best Printer for giclee prints

    1. The P800 is a 17" consumer printer. 2. Epson aqueuous printers get the best results from using Epson's own pigment inks. 3. Giclee is a meaningless marketing term, gernerally understood to mean pigment print onto an acid free paper. It is an inkjet print using pigment inks (and I charge an...
  2. I identify as...

Ah, Parliament Squareabout. Never sure about the e in Squareabout, until you write it without, when you get a squarabout, which is definitely wrong. Also very dull. Much like Parliament.
  3. I identify as...

Call that a roundabout. This is a magic roundabout. https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-1015415851-hemel-hempstead-magic-roundabout-overhead-drone The old Kodak UK production facility overlooked it.
  4. How to calculate cutting vinyl time and price ??

Over in my small town, there are big players, corporates, midsize companies, small fish, m&p's, the whole range. Those big big fish, the ones that have to keep moving, they can be fun to work with, but as the joke goes, why are lawyers safe to swim in shark infested waters? Professional...
  5. How to calculate cutting vinyl time and price ??

My local independent garage does that - they never need to advertise, have repeat customers, and new business from word of mouth. That $30 pretty much guarantees repeat business from someone who is now a walking talking Stacey fan.
  6. Do you wear gloves while applying vinyl?

I weed with tweezers. Each time I stab myself with them, I get two cuts for the price of one. For cutting, a tray of scalpels (they don't roll), and I can change blades (well, pick up a new scalpel) faster than I can snap off a blade. I've not been able to feel the same precision with a snap...
  7. Banners, windows, shirts etc. for franchises like "Pruvit" "31" "Tupperware" etc.

Moral gut feeling. When you understand copyright (and it works for us as well), then you get a feeling when something might not be legal / kosher / could become a right royal pita. If you sense a red flag, ask a couple of questions. If the client is legit, then press go. But blindly saying sure...
  8. Banners, windows, shirts etc. for franchises like "Pruvit" "31" "Tupperware" etc.

His email and signature signature was lead animator at xyza.com, coupled with the phone call, I knew we were in the clear. We take copyright seriously, and to be honest would rather turn down the sorts of clients who would nickle and dime.
  9. Banners, windows, shirts etc. for franchises like "Pruvit" "31" "Tupperware" etc.

Had a phone call a few years ago asking if we could do a handful of 40x60" high quality prints from a movie screen shot. Said no on a couple of grounds: 1, quality would be poor. 2, it would be copyright infringement. Without skipping a beat, guy on the other end asks what size file should be...
  10. Diy rack for dry prints

Photo prints up to 44" wide, I make my way down the corridors. Works for prints up to 80" long (I'm only 5'10). Winds one of my colleagues up, as I'm making the place untidy, until I walk down behind them counting £200, £400, £600...
  11. How do you categorize and/or organized your samples?

Outside of a well colour managed workflow, then depending on the scale of your samples, a normal filing cabinet. If the samples need to be bigger, there are suspension racks comercially available for architectural plans. These are designed to hold lots of sheets in a dense space, but would...
  12. 4 month old Mimaki problems

I wish I'd read this (and other examples of) advice years ago when we would get random cyan trails and ink drops from our old Canon 8300 - always in runs of horribly expensive canvas or cotton rag media. Dealer couldn't suggest solution, and we needed a fix fast, so started a lease on a newer...
  13. Suggestions Don't want to mess up the furniture

Also not sign related, https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/jul/12/paratrooper-falls-through-roof-california - guy chose the right place to land. Yoga / exercise mats tend to be soft and grippy (so I'm told)
  14. When Will Adobe Do This...

On the flip side of this, imagine dropping 30K on a printer and not picking up a half ways decent decent laminator...
  15. When Will Adobe Do This...

Autodesk - the software that offers financing!
  16. How fancy do I need? (Xrite i1, Spyder or ??) FB700/Roland XR640

X-rite i1 Pro 3 Publish. Create printer profiles with media and laminate applied, so laminate does not shift colours. Very simple to use (though a few of the options are vague in what they do), and in conjunction with with a well calibrated screen, takes a lot of the guess work out of production.
  17. Graphtec fc-9000 140 help!!!

I can't imagine how a 35' sheet arrives other than on a roll, but I'd want it to be lined up true on the roll. Edit the design to put in registration marks, diamonds or similar, so that you can break the design into handlable sections - say seven parts by five foot, then use the manual reg marks...
  18. Can you decode this logo?

That'd be the £400,000 Wolf Olins design. Very proud of it they were too.
  19. Reprint for free?

I'll go with on the other hand, have a catastrophic print head failure, and leave him hanging. Too many messages, too quickly for him to be a rational customer.
