  1. Direct to Magnetic Material!!? JV3-160SP &$%$*$

I agree with Gino in stating that unless you are planning on printing tons of magnets it's not worth the effort to go beyond mounting vinyl prints to magnet. I am printing tons of .030 magnet with two Mimakis, and it took LOTS of R&D time and $ to get there. If you have the jobs coming in to...
  2. Issues with die cutting laminated prints

I think you would be best off with a 60 degree blade with the appropriate offset for your tool holder. your corners are probably rounding because although you may have your offset value set correctly for your blade-tool holder combo, when the blade is sticking way out and you're cutting thick...
  3. Issues with die cutting laminated prints

maybe a different blade would work for you. Not sure what plotter and blade you are using, but 60degree blades work for me.
  4. cutting printed decal issue

There is a take-up option for this plotter that may help.
  5. Why is this Happening!!?? Roller marks!!? CHECK!!

I had this happen on some Mimaki's after running certain material. Never "solved" it, but we did have success after cleaning the rollers, or running blank material under them to sort of soak up whatever residue was on there. I thought the middle rollers on the Roland were essential, but have run...
  6. best practices for laminating

That's what I did, but about halfway through the roll, it began to wrinkle on 1 side. I looked at the feed-side of the machine, and my print was buckled on the opposite side of the fold. I put tension on the roll and it began to feed a little more smoothly. I do not have a lower mandrel...
  7. best practices for laminating

What are the most important aspects of laminating vinyl prints? I have printed an entire roll of 30" vinyl (150' long,) that I would like to laminate with my SEAL EP42. My first problem is that my print was wound onto a take-up (JV33) and it is not wound concentrically, and it is fairly loose...
  8. Printing on Mirror Finish Metal

could you print on clear vinyl and mount it to the metal?
  9. Adobe's new pricing strategy

You actually have clients that send usable art!?! I'm used to getting tiny jpegs...if I ask for vector, they will usually place a bitmap into Illustrator and save it that way. Actually, I have had some people send me some CS5 files and although I didn't directly open them in CS4, I was able to...
  10. Proof is in the pudding!

thanks for posting your experience...I was just talking with a vendor about switching to non-OEM. We won't be doing that!
  11. How to cut-back decals on vs-540?

if it is off a little randomly, that would make me thing that the grit rollers and pinch wheels aren't getting a good bite. Your alignment method sounds logical. Perhaps you could apply tape to the back of the release liner along the feed axis on both sides to give the rubber wheels a better...

  13. Is there a downside to printing high speed?

High speed will cost in print quality, but the lower quality may not be an issue if your print is being viewed from several feet away. I have some printers that move pretty fast, and the entire machine sways with the print head motion...I imagine that could create wear on some components.
  14. Adobe's new pricing strategy

does anyone see anything "fantastic" about CS5.5 in regard to printing signs/decals? I see some more control over brushes and strokes and perspective drawing in illustrator, but I can't find anything beneficial to printers (aside from Indesign users) that justifies the upgrade. CS5.5 seems to...

  16. Getting box around blur in Illustrator.

Do you have a spot color behind your effect? I have seen this too, and upon converting the spot color to cmyk, the print turned out fine.
  17. Putting Printer into Storage

cleaning print heads, capping station, flushing ink out of the lines... Those are the first few things that come to mind. Install the head lock... Cover it with something to keep dust out while in storage. If you have custom profiles it may be a good idea to back them up as well so you can use...
  18. Pinch rollers streaking media

I've seen the same thing on some of our Mimakis using different material. The only thing I have been able to do is run sacrificial material through the printer in an attempt to soak up whatever residue was transferred to the rollers. I've run Phototex without this residue issue, but I have seen...
  19. Anyone have one of these?

My Seal EP42 has different Nip Adjustment Settings for different thickness, but I don't see any fine tuning between them for pressure. How do you set the tension for your feed rolls? Since you are using the lowest setting for pressure on your machine, I'm thinking I would need to have my...
  20. Anyone have one of these?

Is Royal Sovereign the manufacturer that Seal uses? I would like to have something like this for my Seal EP42...I actually came into this forum to search for info regarding tension settings...I can't get rid of the wrinkles! Can someone direct me to a good resource? the manual does not address...
