  1. New Roland VSi....anyone have one yet?

We're thinking of upgrading printers before year's end. (think tax advantages) Currently running an SP-540v which is about 7 years old. Love it, its been a workhorse, but would like the expanded capabilities of the VSi. Anyone have one? Comments?
  2. Scanner recommendation?

We have a basic 5 man commercial sign shop. Our scanner (God knows how old) is not working properly. Is there any real difference in scanners for our purposes? We need to purchase something that will allow us to scan customer supplied artwork for reproduction. Usually nothing high rez or...
  3. Help with this font?

It's the title text's font I need. Thanks everyone.
  4. Regarding Signs101 forum, one thing I've noticed is.....

I spend a whole lot less time on here than I used to. That is, when conversations and topics often were about recent news events, political commentary, religious commentary, etc. Debates often happened, with some of them turning into heated affairs with occasional ad hominem attacks on the...
  5. Versaworks update causes problem.

Launched VW this morning and got their notice of update. I clicked on install. During the download Malwarebytes pops up and says it has quarrantined a malicious virus from this download. Now VW won't launch stating "some application files are missing to start the program". "Please re-install the...
  6. There must be some serious markup in sign materials!

Quick story. Just this week the winning bid was announced for a job we had bid on. It was a large quantity of signs for the municipality in which I live. We had previously been the winning bidder on another project three months ago for this same municipality. Graphics on 28 busses. Well, you...
  7. PhotoShop is being "dumb" again. Or is it me, duh.

The "trim" command won't work today. I'm working with a flattened image. When I ask it to trim (in this case white pixels along top and right edge) it doesn't do anything. What am I missing here? First time I've seen this. Any ideas? Oh, it's CS5 if that matters.
  8. Grrrr. Customers buying cheapy camouflage vinyl off the web, looking for someone to..

wrap their vehicle. This last one who just left minutes ago showed us the vinyl which she had folded up (no, not rolled up) and ask us for a quote to wrap her Chev. truck. The stuff didn't even look like it was laminated. WTF?
  9. Still in the carton, 65 brand new light boxes for sale.

I have a quantity of 13.5"x18.5" light boxes for sale. I would prefer to sell them all to a single buyer. They are suitable for use as a tracing device, or can be used as an inside display. They have a single light inside, clear plexi panel ans well as the white translucent plexi light...
  10. Calling all PhotoShop experts.

Can't figure this one out. I'm using CS5. Client has sent me a large bitmap file, 11"x17" at 800 dpi. After opening it in PS, I find that I can't do anything with it. When I select a tool and mouse over the image, I get a circle/slash icon. I can't even create a duplicate layer. Tried...
  11. Font I.D. help

Trying to replicate an existing bronze plaque. Anyone know this font?
  12. Am I the only one who thinks the OraJet makers...

put way too much masking tape to secure their rolls of vinyl? And then it's wound tight enough that there's always a crease in the vinyl that makes you have to throw out the first 18".
  13. What a great place this is!

Just did a repair to my printer. I searched and found a step by step (via a .pdf) posted by a member here named Cajun312 from June of this year. It worked perfectly! My repair was a carriage cable replacement and it went well. We're up and running! (ordered the parts from my vendor the...
  14. Hypocrisy...or is it?

A recent thread on here got me thinking about something. So many times I read about shops complaining about clients going out of town for their sign work, rather than using them, their "native son" (local guy) All well and good, but really, how many of us use on-line (out of the area) shops...
  15. It's not Times New Roman, but similar.

Anyone know this font? "FFS" the other font is different. I also don't know that one.
  16. Steam cleaning to remove residual adhesive?

21 foot cube van has had lettering removed. They did a pretty good job, not great gobs of glue left, but enough to catch road dirt and look bad. We have to letter all four sides of this beast and was wondering if steam is effective? I'm assuming you can rent a machine somewhere to do this...
  17. Font I.D. please

Again, a font that looks like ten thousand others. But they gotta have this particular one. Any ideas?
  18. This job is really funny!

Top fuel dragster funny car. Just a little grocery-getter with a few thousand horse. We're completely changing the car color using 3M's new 1080. Sponsor's colors are Orange and Black. We've not used 1080 before but heard it's pretty nice to work with.
  19. Font Id please

Incidentally this is a logo we designed but the client didn't go for it. But they supplied some of the lettering in a jpg format and now we have to cut some vinyl for the fleet, but we don't know the font. (just the Wilcox & Flegel portion)
  20. The cost of signs

I've been wanting to ask this for some time. Just how much to prices vary in this large and diverse country? I understand that the East is far more populated than the West. I understand that large cities, be they in the East or West are more expensive to live in so I would expect sign prices...
