  1. Printed colors have a "too green" cast. HELP?

I run a Roland printer. Ever since I've owned it I've had this same problem. Most colors look okay until I go outside the store with them. Whoa! Then medium browns look really greenish! Is there some way to color correct this or is it just a function of the inks and profiles, etc.?
  2. Error message: OPOS can't find registration marks. Cutting aborted.

I'm getting this error message for the first time ever. Co-incidentally (or not) it's the first time we've tried to cut something over 53" which I think the manual states you need 3 pairs of marks. We cut many other files this very day. But they all had two pairs of marks. Is there something...
  3. Story has nothing to do with signs.

So Saturday I'm having coffee with my guys at Starbucks. (there's six to eight of us who drift in and out, after chatting for a while anywhere from 6am to 8am) We're all about my age and quite capable of solving all the world's problems before we go about our usual Saturday chores. So...
  4. Rookie question about print heads.

Ok, so my tech tells me there are only so many "shots" or "firings" in the life of any print head. My question is what constitutes a "shot"? In theory if you were printing a rectangle of say, red 1" deep by 54" wide, and the heads are putting down 1/8" of pattern with each pass, is that 8...
  5. Why does Roland continue to release updates?

Does anyone know why so many updates come through from Roland. Seems like we've gotten three in the last week. Are there that many new medias being introduced that they have to update color profiles so often? Is it primarily for the Versaworks RIP? Are these possibly "fixes" to the firmware?
  6. A first for us.

Wrapped about 20 vehicles this year. Complete wraps, nose to tail. Many of them in the last six months or so. So a week ago the client for which we've done seven pickups or so, walks in with a 2010 Chevy fender in his hands. (it's brand new) I guess he got it from the body shop. He's also...
  7. question about drag and drop clip art

Just purchased a clip art product whereby once you download the art onto your desktop, everything pops up for you and you can scroll through tons of images right on your work surface. It's a totally marvelous concept. It works perfectly in Corel X5. But in Gerber Omega Composer (my regular...
  8. Looks like hiring time has come.

Right hand man who's worked here for 14 years is getting ready to embark on a new career. I've known about it for a while, but this weekend we talked and it's coming about soon. I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of hiring a total trainee, an experienced guy who can step right in and...
  9. Oh boy! I get to do some research tonite on a new cutter.

Our little HS-15plus is wearing out. Not quite closing all the cuts and also beeping for some reason when files are sent. So....tonite I'm reading up on three machines. The Graftec FC series, the Roland Camm-1 series, and the Summa S Class cutters. I need something in the range of 24", but...
  10. Should be an easy font ID for someone.

This sign done by another local shop. We're supposed to use the same font on another window. Any guess as to the font? Photo sent to us by the client. A bit hard to see I admit.
  11. Font ID help?

Doing a take-off of this font. Anyone know it?
  12. Excessive tool travel on the Roland when cutting.

Does anyone know how to reduce tool travel when cutting? Put another way, I'm sending a file to VersaWorks that is a cut only file. It consists of many, many names for office doors. I've arranged things in my native vector program so they cut efficiently. (blocks of text stacked, etc.) But...
  13. Don't lose his phone number.

Had a woman call the shop yesterday. Wanted a price on a 28"x28" sign for a garage sale of some sort. Said it must be waterproof for outside usage. Emphasized that twice. After talking about it for a minute, I told her we could do something for the sum of $56.00. A quickie. She then said...
  14. Font ID?

Help with this one very much appreciated.
  15. Women only!

Ok..... how many of you girls are reading "fifty shades of grey"? Fess up.
  16. Service tech just left....

We just had service from Pacific Coast Sign Supply (Portland Oregon). They sent up Richard, one of their two service tech's and he did a beautiful job of getting our aging Roland up and running again. He is quick, personable and very competent. Was able to diagnose a blown fuse on the mother...
  17. No magenta ink after new cartridge installed

Roland machine beeped. Out of magenta. Replace cartridge and go on about my work. Look over 5 minutes later and the machine is not printing magenta. Shut everthing down. Checked cartridge again, seems fine. Tried pulling ink through rubber lines where they "Y" off as I've done before. Twenty...
  18. JOKE, with a moral to the story.

So this elderly couple decide to down size, sell their big house in the country and move to the city. Purchase and move into this quaint little house in a nice neighborhood in mid July. Enjoying their new home until one day early in Sept. they're awoken by a loud banging sound outside the...
  19. Here's a tough font I.D.

Both the "breathe" and the "easy".
  20. Any engravers here using Xenetech equipment?

I have a problem. For some reason jobs won't "send" to our engravers. Unplugged everything, re-started the programs, etc. Everything worked fine yesterday. Anyone with an idea?
