  1. equity and the upper crust, this cant end up well

Ignaz Semmelweis was a Hungarian physician. He was the first to propose to the medical community that doctors should wash their hands between patients. For instance, if a doctor was working on a dead body and were called in to deliver a baby, the Semmelweis said that it might be a good idea to...
  2. _

We just concluded our best year ever. What the future holds is anyone's guess, but we're solid. I'm sorry to hear that things are going rough for you. What's your opinion on why the change?
  3. New drying/offgassing box

Whenever I see a box fan in a shop, I keep thinking about integrating a filter to clean shop dust out of the air. Seems weird to filter the air after it gets pulled off of the print, but air flow is air flow, right? And some of you are running your fans all the time. Wonder how it would work...
  4. Grimlite

Tubelite was our Roland ink supplier. When they got gobbled up by Grimco I remember thinking that it might actually be a little more convenient for us (they are our vendor for ACM substrate and some media). But then, I couldn't get my inks anymore. After some hand wringing we made the leap to...
  5. PA Wanted - Roland vs540 take up reel.

I have a Roland Versa Camm VS-640i and I have been looking into getting a take-up reel as well. You dead set on OEM? I'm seeing compatible third party takeup reels for my machine that are in the 300$ range; I'm guessing that going full Roland will at least be twice that - likely more. Auto...
  6. Hiring Designers for my Sign Company

It might just be that you'll have to do some training. My first design job wasn't at a sign company, and when the sign company did hire me, they were just tickled that I knew how to align objects so that they were centered. The rest I had to learn. Find someone you like, someone who has a...
  7. Review Logo for Hurrah Players

I think you have3 some worthwhile elements here, and I would not be surprised to hear that your customers are happy with it, but I think there is room for improvement and I have some specific design choices that I am questioning. One of the first things that jumped out at me was the different...
  8. New drying/offgassing box

I'm thinking that they just have a take up reel and they set their prints to the side until the assembly line can catch up with them. Probably, by the time the cutting guys get to the prints, they are safe to handle. Maybe an hour?
  9. All of a sudden it says now heating. I have to hit pause to start printing.

Those sound like plausible causes. Something internal is telling your printer to wait until some value reaches the operating parameters, and for whatever reason, it isn't getting there. If you haven;'t changed any settings, I'd agree with the guys above. Thermistor or heater.
  10. Is this an Arkansas thing?

I used to live in Georgia, and that entire state went into full on lockdown at the first hint of snow. The people there just had no idea how to deal with it. Back in 2014, Snowpocalypse hit Georgia and there was actual snow on the ground that stuck. People thought it was the end of days. One...
  11. Ever Put two Banners together?

Send it out to a vendor. No headaches, one piece, usually delivered fast. A little less $ in your pocket, but a lot less stress.
  12. HELP! - Head striking perf film when printing

Check your head height? Sorry, just checked your printer and I see that the head height is fixed. Wish I could have helped.
  13. New drying/offgassing box

Outgassing, curing, fixing, drying and setting are interchangeable words in my line of work (although, I'm sure there's a pedant who will disagree). What we're all trying to get to is the point when it is safe to handle and laminate a print. I'd bet that we've all left a big, fat thumbprint on...
  14. Vutek flatbed wrinkling on long runs

Could it be the media? I’m inclined to say no. It doesn’t matter if I run poster paper, vinyl, banner material or canvas, the same issue pops up with the same pattern. It happens on 63”, 54” and even 24” media. I can switch the roll between printers and have problems on the flatbed, but not...
  15. Vutek flatbed wrinkling on long runs

I have an EFI Pro 16h 64" UV Flatbed printer that runs media off of a reel in the back, and I have the same problem - it gives me anxiety running anything longer than 8 feet. We had to run a 20 foot banner today, I I found myself staring off into space, hearing Helicopters with the Doors playing...
