never noticed the "slugishness" of CS2 and I certainly don't notice it in CS3.

unfortunately machines never break until they are out of warranty lol (not true ours did) but thats what it always seems like. Head replacements aren't cheap so keep that in mind when making this decision.

Another thing i forgot to mention earlier, the importing for layered .psd files has also been significantly improved. I find myself doing the vector work in Illustrator, importing it into Photoshop as a smart object and doing all the crazy layers/filters etc on separate layers, save it as a .psd...

Well, CS2 will not open a CS3 file unless it was saved with a legacy format setting. Live Trace has been upgraded pretty significantly if you find that tool useful.
