if you are just looking for a Plug-In then Eyecandy's would be your best bet. To get a real chrome look though, no filter can really compare to just knowing how to achieve that effect, its not 2 simple steps and usually differs from each project which sucks.

Glyph is the end result of WTF not finding any matches so it just assumes they are hand-drawn glyphs not an actual font family. However, as Fred mentioned there is a font family Glypha from the LinoType originals collection.
the tools for profiling are not cheap, but keeping consistent color is well...priceless.

sounds like there are two cutpaths it is reading and one is slightly larger than the other. Are you creating the contour line in PS and importing it into Illustrator?
