I can't help you in Canada, but the new Roland XP printer is really fast and the ink costs are only $.10/ft2 on average. If you have a lot of volume, a Colorado is a good call as well where you'll see ink costs at $.08/ft2 or better (USD)
Perf comes in a few forms:
Monomeric (cheap) perf used to be rated for 1 year but now everyone who makes it claims two years. I believe they do that mostly betting on the fact people won't bitch if it doesn't go for 2 years. This product is cheap and great for shorter term perf applications...
No...not WHILE you are laminating. If you webbed material up pretty straight and you start to see it drift after 100 feet or so, then when you cut everything out you do the calibration and the next roll you'll be good-to-go for 150 feet.
If it is a Mistral, then you have it. Turn the power off on the front (the LED lights should still be on), make sure nothing is in between the rollers, and then press the "M" and "foot pedal" buttons at the same time...the screen will say "CAL" and the rollers will very slowly go all the way...
I've sold laminators since I was in college. Don't skimp. For a little bit more, you can get a Kala or a Seal Base and those laminators, if taken care of, will last 10-20 years with little to no issues. A new Kala Mistral (top heat assist up to 140 degrees) is an awesome machine as it is the...
My favorite adhesive is called Retac Duo...it is clear with one permanent side (on the print) and one removable side (window). The adhesive "wets out" really well...by that I mean it can be applied by amateurs, and it will end up looking perfect. The Retac adhesive is very easy removal with...
It isn't very difficult to do....we've got a blockout media where you can print double sided and a great and easy to apply perm/removable clear adhesive. If you can't do it in house, I'm sure I can get a customer to spit them out for you.
wow....I've never really seen the trail bubbles off of solvent, but if you are laying down that much ink maybe it could happen. If you can add 120 degrees of heat to your rollers I'm pretty confident it will go away. If not I've got a higher coat weight laminate that would likely do the trick...
show a picture. What type of printer are you using? bubbles that 'trail' ink are usually from some of the older UV printers where you can really feel the ink's thickness....and when you go from a solid to no ink coverage, it steps down and leaves a bubble behind.
You would benefit from a...
I don't know about doing it exlusively in Onyx....but I don't think it would be a problem using PrismaGuide software. Here is a video on making a 5 layer print, but the setup would be similar for 3 layer.
I'm unaware of any thicker clear permanent print medias other than 3 or 4mils. If you have a UV printer, one product I think is cool is Retac Clear which is a pvc-free PET film with their Retac adhesive. While it isn't permanent, it won't go anywhere unless someone wants to remove it. The...
I'm happy to introduce you to some customers of mine who have built really great internet portals to help you make real estate signs. You just upload a few details and they crank it out (my wife is a realtor and she uses one of them and pays around $100 for a great and durable sign) If you are...
Unless you left an object between the rollers and the rollers down, it can't really be a flat spot. Flat spots would be visible from end-to-end and would be maybe 1/3" wide.
Even if it was a flat spot, heat the rollers and let them run together for a few hours and they usually go away.
It...
late response, but you should consider changing all of the tubes annually (assuming you run the machine most days). They start to crimp over time and starve the heads. My tech does this all the time and it avoids a lot of problems.
